Heart South is seeking a Patient Access Specialist to support patients through registration, authorization, financial clearance, and scheduling for complex and high-dollar specialty services. This role is essential in ensuring a smooth patient experience while minimizing financial and authorization barriers to care.

Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Perform patient registration, authorization, and financial clearance for complex and specialty services
- Verify insurance benefits and obtain required authorizations from payers
- Collect co-pays, deductibles, coinsurance, and outstanding balances in accordance with department guidelines
- Explain insurance benefits, financial responsibility, and required documentation to patients and guarantors
- Accurately gather and enter patient demographic and financial information
- Build strong working relationships with physicians, clinical teams, and payers to prevent denials and delays
- Identify and resolve customer service issues while supporting service recovery efforts
- Monitor, document, and report issues and trends impacting patient access or financial outcomes
- Screen patients for federal, state, or local assistance programs and complete required applications
- Schedule, reschedule, and coordinate tests and procedures while maintaining communication with all stakeholders
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, hospital, and Baptist Health policies and procedures
Qualifications
Qualifications
- Education: Associate’s degree preferred
- Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years experience in customer service, financial services, business, or healthcare required
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage sensitive patient information
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Ability to multitask and work effectively in a high-volume environment
