Advanced Water Technician
Location: Sterling, Virginia

Position Overview
Our client is seeking an Advanced Water Technician to lead complex water damage mitigation and restoration projects for residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional properties. This senior-level technician specializes in advanced structural drying, large-loss management, moisture mapping, psychrometry, and specialized remediation techniques. The role involves leading multiple crews, overseeing large-scale restoration efforts, and ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead teams while ensuring proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Review daily project requirements, document progress, and communicate updates to management.
- Complete field documentation, moisture maps, photographs, sketches, and drying reports.
- Read blueprints and floor plans to develop effective drying strategies.
- Calculate moisture loads, affected building volumes, and equipment requirements.
- Determine electrical requirements for drying equipment and temporary power solutions.
- Supervise multiple restoration crews across multiple job sites.
- Perform and oversee advanced water damage mitigation and specialized remediation work.
- Select appropriate disposal methods and obtain liability releases when required.
- Conduct daily vehicle inspections and maintain company equipment.
- Deliver exceptional customer service while maintaining professionalism.
- Accurately report labor hours, equipment usage, and consumables.
- Travel as required, including overnight and weekend assignments.
- Participate in required operational and safety training.
Qualifications
- Strong working knowledge of IICRC S500 Water Damage Restoration Standard.
- Strong working knowledge of IICRC S520 Mold Remediation Standard.
- Current IICRC Applied Structural Drying (ASD) certification required.
- Demonstrated expertise in advanced water damage restoration techniques.
- Proficient with moisture detection equipment, thermal imaging cameras, hygrometers, HydroSensor, NavPro Moisture Meter (or equivalent), and related tools.
- Thorough understanding of psychrometry, thermodynamics, structural drying principles, HVAC containment, and Category 3 water/mold remediation.
- Ability to calculate air mover requirements, dehumidification needs, and electrical load specifications.
- Experience managing large-loss restoration projects and supervising multiple crews.
- Valid driver's license with eligibility to operate a company vehicle.
- Strong customer service, communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently lift over 50 lbs.
- Occasionally lift heavy materials with assistance.
- Work in confined or restricted spaces.
- Stand, walk, bend, kneel, and perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods.
- Use mobile devices to collect project data and record work hours.
