General Summary

Responsible for the production output of an assigned production cell/line/area on a specified shift. Works with the production team to establish standardized work, optimize labor utilization, and ensure uninterrupted production flow. Provides problem-solving support, coaching, and training to employees. Primarily an indirect labor role but may fill in as needed.

Principal Duties and Accountabilities (*Essential Functions)

  • Provides leadership to assigned team-work direction.  Conducts/leads team meetings.  Ensures communication and feedback flows up, down, and across all levels and shifts/teams as needed.
  • Manages continuous improvement (kaizen) efforts for assigned cell/line/area.  Helps establish goals and targets for cell/line/area.  Follows up on/audits meeting goals/targets, team members assignments, and adherence to standards (e.g., standard work instructions, kanbans, etc.).
  • Leads and establishes a safety and quality first philosophy within assigned cell/line/area.  Leads, teaches, and coaches implementation of standards and principles within the cell/line/area.
  • Addresses abnormal situations within the cell/line/area.  Coordinates the efforts and work of hourly employees on a day-to-day basis to meet established goals/targets following established standards, procedures, and policies.
  • Generally, performs the same work as those for whom he/she coordinates work.  Prioritizes and assigns day-to-day work and handles employee issues.  Elevates supervisor issues in meeting targets/goals and with employee performance where job action (such as formal discipline) may result.

Educational Skills and Experience

  • Post high school education.
  • Experience in the product lines the opening exists.
  • Personal computer skills (MS Office- Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).
  • Participation in CI implementations such as SOL and Kaizen Card submissions.
  • Familiarity and usage of Lean Manufacturing Principles.
  • At least one year of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in a leadership role (internal or external employment).
  • Demonstrated ability to operate production machinery.
  • Good working knowledge of production reporting, scrap reporting, gages and scales.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • No disciplinary action within the last 12 months.

Work Environment

  • Most of the time is spent in the manufacturing plant.  This exposure subjects incumbent to temperature changes, dirt, dust, noise, vibration, moving objects and mechanical parts, machine tool lubricant mists, equipment and explosive hazards.  Some time will be spent in the manufacturing office area, or in meeting rooms.

Physical Demands

  • Standing and moving about for 90% of the time.
  • Reaching, handling and fingering to fill hoppers, add material and make adjustments/repairs.
  • Frequent lifting, moving, pushing and pulling objects weighing up to 50 pounds; occasional lifting and moving up to 70 pounds.
  • Near vision for making fine adjustments and detecting quality defects and far vision for operations of forklift or other mobile equipment.
  • Must have normal color vision and normal depth perception capability.
  • Climbing (ladders to fill hoppers), stooping, bending and kneeling (making adjustments, checking quality, etc.).

Work Environment:
Employee work assignments may include tasks working with and/or exposure to potentially hazardous areas, including flammables and explosives. Safety training is provided to all employees to ensure compliance with company and federal regulations.

Pay Range:

Starting Hourly Rate: $27.34

The actual annual salary offered to a candidate will be based on variables including experience, geographic location, education, and skills/achievements, and will be mutually agreed upon at the time of offer.
