Maintenance Technician

Based on experience level, this position can be a Junior Tech ($22hr) Tech ($23.50hr) or Lead Maintenance Tech ($25hr)

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.; schedule flexibility based on operational needs

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Teamwork and Communication

• Develop and maintain professional, effective, and positive working relationships with team members, staff, clients, vendors, and other stakeholders.

• Communicate professionally through email, text, telephone, and work-order tracking software.

• Use sound judgment and effective problem-solving skills.

• Collaborate with the maintenance team to plan and complete assigned work orders and projects.

• Share knowledge, assist coworkers as appropriate, and contribute to a supportive team environment.

Work Planning and Documentation

• Review work orders and plan assigned work before beginning.

• Identify the tools, equipment, parts, materials, safety requirements, and site access needed to complete assigned work.

• Use organizational resources responsibly and minimize unnecessary travel, duplicate purchases, and material waste.

• Coordinate access and scheduling with appropriate site staff before beginning work.

• Document labor, travel time, materials, findings, completed repairs, outstanding needs, and recommended follow-up accurately and promptly.

• Notify the supervisor of delays, scope changes, safety concerns, or conditions requiring a contractor, specialized equipment, or additional approval.

• Complete assigned work to department standards with minimal supervision and without unnecessary rework.

Technical Skills Facility Maintenance and Fleet Support

• Within the employee's demonstrated training, authorization, and any applicable licensing or permitting requirements, independently inspect, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair common facility systems, equipment, and fleet vehicles.

• Perform plumbing maintenance and repairs involving sinks, faucets, toilets, drains, fixtures, and related components.

• Perform authorized electrical maintenance involving light switches, outlets, lighting fixtures, and related components.

• Perform authorized HVAC preventive maintenance, filter replacement, cleaning, troubleshooting, and basic diagnostics.

• Perform building maintenance and construction repairs, including:

• Drywall repair and installation.

• Door, hardware, and lock repair or replacement.

• Interior and exterior painting.

• Screen repair.

• Minor carpentry and finish work.

• Installation and repair of common facility components.

• Assist with fleet inspections, preventive maintenance, minor repairs, cleaning, and documentation according to established maintenance schedules.

• Perform assigned work in accordance with applicable specifications, manufacturer instructions, safety requirements, and building codes within the employee's training and authorization.

• Safely operate, inspect, clean, and store company vehicles, machinery, hand and power tools, diagnostic equipment, and required personal protective equipment in accordance with applicable safety, driver, vehicle-use, and telematics requirements.

• Maintain safe, clean, organized, and professional work areas.

Property and Grounds Maintenance

• Perform year-round grounds maintenance, including mowing, raking, landscaping, irrigation support, and debris removal.

• Assist with seasonal property preparation and facility weatherization.

• Participate in snow and ice removal, including early-morning response, to ensure safe access to Flathead Industries properties.

• Travel between Flathead Industries locations as required.

• Participate in the Operations On-Call rotation and perform early-morning, evening, weekend, holiday, overtime, or emergency-response work as operationally necessary.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Maintenance Technicians are expected to complete assigned work independently while continuing to develop their technical knowledge and skills.

Requirements

• Employees frequently communicate with supervisors, coworkers, staff, clients, vendors, and members of the public and must be able to exchange accurate information while performing assigned duties.
• This position regularly requires standing, walking, sitting, bending, climbing, kneeling, reaching, and using hands to handle tools, equipment, and materials. Employees must frequently lift, carry, push, pull, or move items weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds, with or without assistance. Required vision abilities include close and distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Work is performed indoors and outdoors on surfaces that may be uneven, wet, icy, or slippery. Physical exertion is regularly required during maintenance, repair, construction, groundskeeping, snow removal, fleet maintenance, and related duties. Employees may be exposed to adverse weather, loud noise, dust, odors, cleaning chemicals, and mechanical or electrical hazards and may occasionally encounter challenging behaviors or physical aggression.
• Employees must follow workplace safety procedures, use required personal protective equipment, and safely operate tools, machinery, vehicles, and maintenance equipment.
• This position participates in the Operations On-Call rotation and may require overtime, early-morning, evening, weekend, holiday, or emergency-response work. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of applicable background checks and motor vehicle record review, possession of a valid driver's license, insurability under Flathead Industries' vehicle insurance requirements, and compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
