Job Summary:

The Fluno Center, a full-service event destination and conference center in the heart of the UW–Madison campus, is seeking a motivated and talented Food and Beverage Assistant Manager to join our team. This role requires a proactive, independent leader who is ready to oversee catering and dining operations while delivering exceptional guest experiences. Key responsibilities include managing event setups and execution, supporting break stations, overseeing operations at Smitty’s Pub and Oros Dining Room, and handling administrative duties such as budgeting, scheduling, and inventory management. Additionally, this position oversees student employee recruitment, onboarding, and training. A successful candidate will have previous full-service restaurant and/or catering leadership experience, with bartending knowledge considered a strong plus. Excellent communication, organizational, and team-building skills are essential to thrive in this role.

Physical Demands:

Ability to lift and carry 25 pounds frequently needed; Ability to stand for long periods of time

Work Schedule and Location:

This position is 100% on-site and is scheduled to work a combination of days, nights, and weekends.  Operational and work schedules will be closely aligned with the services and customer needs of our facility.

Key Job Responsibilities:

• Assists with unit budget monitoring, management of inventory levels, and staff training

• Monitors adherence to federal, state, campus, and local food safety regulations, policies, and procedures, identifies needs and makes recommendations for improvement to leadership

• Develops, implements and oversees workflow components, and assigns and coordinates the day-to-day activities of food service staff

• Selects, develops, implements and schedules logistics and menus for daily and catering operations

• Leads and provides exceptional customer service, answers questions, and provides information regarding food preparation, catering, and associated activities

The expected starting salary is $54,500 / Annually

Required Qualifications:

• 1-year of supervisory experience in a food operation – restaurant or catering

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bartending experience
  

Certifications:

• ServSafe Certificate hold or able to obtain within 6-12 months of hire
