Role Overview

As an HR Specialist – German Payroll, you will take direct responsibility for managing end-to-end payroll operations for a dedicated portfolio of corporate clients. Serving as the primary point of contact for HR administration and payroll queries, you will ensure full compliance with German tax, social security, and labor regulations while utilizing SAP HCM and MS Excel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Payroll Execution: Independently prepare and process monthly payroll for a dedicated client portfolio (including active employees and retirees) in compliance with statutory, collective agreement, and individual contract guidelines.
  • Client Advisory: Act as the main contact person for client inquiries regarding payroll, HR administration, wage tax, and social security topics.
  • Statutory Compliance & Reporting: Execute monthly and year-end closing activities, manage company pension schemes (betriebliche Altersvorsorge), and handle correspondence with tax authorities, health insurance funds, and public institutions.
  • System Management & Support: Perform error analysis, data maintenance, and troubleshooting within SAP HCM, ensuring clear documentation and structured query resolution.
  • Project Support: Collaborate on continuous process improvements and specialized HR/payroll projects.

Candidate Profile & Requirements

Must-Haves:

  • Experience: Minimum 2–3 years of hands-on experience in German payroll accounting (Lohn- und Gehaltsabrechnung).
  • Technical Knowledge: Solid understanding of German tax and social security law.
  • Software Skills: Practical experience with SAP HCM (or a comparable payroll system) alongside advanced proficiency in MS Excel and MS Office.
  • Language: Fluent German (C1/C2 level) in both written and spoken communication.
  • Background: Completed relevant vocational training (e.g., Steuerfachangestellte/r, Payroll Specialist, or commercial degree). A university degree is not required.
  • Mindset: Strong numerical orientation, analytical thinking, accuracy, and a clear customer-service focus.

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Experience with additional payroll systems or tools such as DATEV or SAP SuccessFactors.
  • Specialized knowledge of German company pension schemes (betriebliche Altersvorsorge).
  • Basic knowledge of ABAP debugging.
