Responsibilities
Job Purpose
The Senior Payroll and Tax Specialist is responsible for processing payroll in an ACCURATE & timely manner. This hire's primary focus will be on DG Payrolls, Puerto Rico and Canada. They must possess strong knowledge of Canadian payroll processing is a must. They will be responsible for managing payroll tax returns for all Pattern Entities. This includes managing the quarter filings, downloading from HCM System (ADP WFN), reviewing and reconciling filings, analyzing and resolving variances and investigating and responding to agency notices. They will monitor and interpret changes to tax and employment regulations. At direction of Payroll manager, they will ensure Pattern is in compliance with new and existing regulatons. This hire's impact is significant in achieving important business objectives such as employee retention, employee engagement and favorable ratings on employee surveys. This is a highly visible position that provides service to the entire employee population.
Key Accountabilities
- Processing Payroll alongside Payroll team.
- Employee support – Respond to and resolve employee inquiries effectively and efficiently.
- Tax Return preparation, review and reconciliation
- Investigating, responding to and resolving tax agency notices and inquires
- Employee support – Respond to and resolve employee inquiries
- Supporting other dept sub-units as well as Accounting, Tax and Senior Management
Qualifications
Experience/Qualifications/Education Required
- 5+ years of experience in Payroll, HR, Benefits, and Payroll Tax across multiple industries, including multi-state U.S. payroll processing.
- Experience processing Canadian payroll and knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation, taxes, and year-end reporting (T4s, ROEs, provincial requirements) is required.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Human Resources, Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
- Active member of PayrollOrg (formerly the American Payroll Association) and participation in a local payroll chapter preferred.
- Payroll certifications and ongoing continuing education in payroll, tax, and compliance.
- Recent experience with ADP Workforce Now is strongly preferred.
- Extensive experience with payroll tax preparation, reconciliation, agency notice resolution, and tax compliance.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and analytical abilities with a proven track record of accuracy.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize multiple tasks and meet critical deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally at all levels of the organization.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, and data analysis functions.
The expected starting pay range for this role is $90,000 - $110,000 USD. This range is an estimate and base pay may be above or below the ranges based on several factors including but not limited to location, work experience, certifications, and education. In addition to base pay, Pattern’s compensation program includes a bonus structure for full-time employees of all levels.
