Rural King is seeking an experienced Mechanic II to diagnose, service, and repair customer and company-owned equipment in our in-store repair operation. This role supports diesel-powered compact tractors, garden tractors, mowing equipment, UTVs, lawn and garden equipment, and forklifts, while managing repair work orders, parts ordering, warranty claims, and customer communication. Responsibilities
What You'll Do
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, service, repair, and maintain diesel engines, small engines, tractors, mowing equipment, UTVs, lawn and garden equipment, and forklifts.
- Perform preventative maintenance and basic to advanced service on customer and company-owned equipment.
- Diagnose and repair diesel, electrical, hydraulic, air conditioning, and mechanical systems.
- Manage repair work orders from intake through completion, including documentation, parts ordering, repairs, and warranty claims.
- Use diagnostic software, multimeters, service tools, repair manuals, diagrams, and schematics to identify equipment issues and complete repairs.
- Complete warranty documentation and process claims according to manufacturer requirements.
- Order and manage special-order parts needed for repairs.
- Document work performed, repair progress, identified issues, and recommended next steps.
- Communicate repair recommendations, service updates, and maintenance information to customers.
- Assist with equipment sales and customer education when needed.
- Load and unload customer and company-owned equipment for repair, service, and delivery.
- Safely operate forklifts, gantry cranes, electric hoists, diagnostic equipment, and shop tools.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized repair shop and properly handle hazardous materials.
- Use computer systems, CRM software, diagnostic programs, barcode scanners, wireless devices, and Microsoft Office for service documentation and parts lookup.
- Read and interpret operating and repair manuals, diagrams, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Manage multiple work orders, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines.
- Participate in cross-training and ongoing technical training.

What We're Looking For
- 3+ years of diesel repair experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Advanced mechanical skills with experience diagnosing and repairing diesel, small engine, electrical, hydraulic, and air conditioning systems.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
- Experience using diagnostic equipment, multimeters, service tools, manuals, schematics, and technical diagrams.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and computer-based systems.
- Experience with CRM software, diagnostic programs, barcode scanning systems, or wireless handheld devices.
- EPA 609 certification preferred but not required.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to manage multiple work orders and meet deadlines.

- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
- Ability to lift, push, and/or pull 30 pounds repetitively and 31–50 pounds intermittently.
- Ability to bend, reach, carry, push, and pull throughout the workday.
- Ability to safely use ladders, pallet jacks, forklifts, and shop equipment.
- Repetitive wrist movements required for keyboard and computer-related tasks.
- Close vision required for computer-related activities and repair work.
- Ability to access and navigate required facilities and work areas.
