Job Summary
The Consulting Services AI & Automation Intern will work across Consulting Services, supporting the Practice Management, SAS, and Source teams. This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain exposure to how Cambridge helps financial advisors grow and operate successful businesses while exploring the practical application of AI, automation, data analytics, and technology. The intern will collaborate with multiple teams, identify opportunities to improve processes and user experiences, and contribute to innovative solutions that drive efficiency and business value.Key Deliverables and Responsibilities
Partner with Practice Management, SAS, and Source team members to learn how each area supports financial advisors and contributes to the overall advisor experience.
Shadow team members and analyze business processes to identify workflow inefficiencies and opportunities for AI, automation, or technology-driven improvements.
Research, build, test, and document practical AI and automation solutions using approved tools such as Microsoft Copilot, Claude, and other technology platforms.
Develop prototypes and recommendations that can be evaluated and potentially implemented by the business to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
Analyze data and create reporting, user profiles, and insights that help teams better understand program participants, target markets, and business opportunities.
Present findings, recommendations, and project outcomes to business stakeholders in a clear and professional manner.
What We Are Looking For
Current undergraduate student pursuing a degree in Data Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, Business, Operations, Finance, Marketing Analytics, or a related field. Relevant experience will be considered regardless of major.
Demonstrated interest in artificial intelligence, automation, data analytics, or emerging technologies.
Experience building, experimenting with, or implementing AI-enabled projects, automations, scripts, workflows, or other technology solutions.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify opportunities and recommend practical solutions.
Curiosity, initiative, and a desire to learn across multiple business disciplines.
Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams.
Familiarity with Microsoft 365 applications, data analysis tools, coding, scripting, or automation platforms is a plus but not required.
Prior financial services experience is not required. We are seeking candidates who enjoy solving problems, exploring new technologies, and turning ideas into practical solutions.
Program Summary: Cambridge’s Next Step 11-week paid summer internship program (May 17 – July 30) gives students the opportunity to gain valuable insight into both their chosen field and the financial service industry while working on meaningful projects that contribute to business outcomes. Each intern is partnered with a professional mentor and participates in our professional development program, which includes industry education, career workshops, leadership panels, and networking events. Nearly 30% of interns return to Cambridge as full-time associates.
Location: All internships are on-site, operating out of our Phoenix, AZ or Fairfield, IA offices. Apartment-style housing is available for Fairfield candidates, and some positions may be eligible to work out of our West Des Moines satellite office.
Work Authorization: Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States. We are unable to accommodate temporary student work authorizations, including initial Curricular Practical Training (CPT) and Optional Practical Training (OPT).
Posting Window: Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis beginning in November. Internships are expected to remain posted until January 15, but may close earlier if filled. Candidates are encouraged to apply early for greatest consideration.
Compensation: $17-$26 per hour depending upon location, role, and year in school. Interns also receive 2 paid holidays and 2 days of paid time off across the summer.
