AML/KYC Risk Management and Outsourcing Manager

Northern Trust is seeking an experienced and highly motivated governance professional to lead the day-to-day oversight of AML/KYC risk management and outsourcing governance activities within the First Line of Defence (1LOD) AML/KYC function. Reporting to the Global Head of AML/KYC Governance, this role will be responsible for ensuring effective governance, oversight, and risk management across the KYC Center of Excellence (CoE).

The successful candidate will serve as a key partner to Business Unit leadership, Compliance, Risk Management, Internal Audit, and outsourcing partners, helping to strengthen Northern Trust’s AML/KYC risk framework and ensuring governance obligations are executed consistently across the global operating model.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the identification, assessment, monitoring, and reporting of AML/KYC risks across the Center of Excellence.

  • Oversee the management of issues, control deficiencies, audit findings, and regulatory actions, ensuring timely remediation and sustainable resolution.

  • Coordinate and support enterprise risk management activities, including Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSA), Enterprise-Wide Risk Assessments (EWRA), and other governance obligations.

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of governance reporting, risk metrics, key risk indicators, and management information to provide transparency on the AML/KYC control environment.

  • Partner with key stakeholders to ensure emerging risks, control weaknesses, and operational challenges are identified, escalated, and managed appropriately.

  • Support regulatory examinations, internal audits, compliance reviews, and external assessments impacting the AML/KYC function.

  • Act as the primary governance lead for outsourced AML/KYC activities performed on behalf of Northern Trust.

  • Oversee service performance monitoring, issue management, risk assessments, and periodic governance reviews for all AML/KYC outsourcing arrangements.

  • Coordinate with Business Unit, Risk, Compliance and Outsourcing Governance teams to ensure effective execution of outsourcing obligations.

  • Lead the preparation of outsourcing governance materials, management reporting, and senior management updates relating to outsourced AML/KYC activities.

  • Ensure outsourcing risks are appropriately identified, documented, assessed, and escalated through established governance processes.

  • Support the Global Head of AML/KYC Governance in the execution of the overall governance framework and strategic governance initiatives.

  • Lead governance forums and working groups relating to AML/KYC risk management, control oversight, and outsourcing governance.

  • Provide leadership and guidance to governance professionals supporting risk management and outsourcing oversight activities.

Qualifications:

  • University degree and/or relevant professional experience.

  • Financial services experience, with significant experience in AML/KYC, Operational Risk, Governance, Risk Management, or Financial Crime Compliance.

  • Strong knowledge of regulatory expectations relating to AML/KYC, risk management, and outsourcing oversight.

  • Demonstrated experience managing risk and control frameworks, issue management programs, and governance processes within a regulated financial institution.

  • Experience overseeing outsourced or offshore service delivery models, preferably within financial crime, operations, or shared services environments.

  • Strong understanding of audit, regulatory examination, and remediation management processes.

  • Proven ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders across multiple business functions and jurisdictions.

  • Excellent analytical, reporting, and communication skills, with experience presenting governance and risk information to senior management and governance committees.

  • Experience supporting large-scale transformation initiatives and evolving operating models.

Eligibility - Internal Partners

  • 3 years as a Team leader to move as a Section Manager currently at an officer Level 

  • Movement within Senior Consultant and Section Manager is applicable if they have prior 36 months of people management experience
