Position Summary

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will provide comprehensive, patient-centered care to individuals with oncologic and hematologic conditions across inpatient and outpatient settings. This role works collaboratively with physicians, nursing staff, consultants, and other members of the multidisciplinary care team to evaluate patients, develop individualized treatment plans, manage cancer-related symptoms and treatment toxicities, and coordinate ongoing care.

Schedule:
This is a full-time, Monday through Friday position, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
No nights, holidays or weekends.

Location:
This is a primarily inpatient position providing coverage for Oncology and Hematology consult services at Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital, Progress West Hospital, and Christian Hospital Northeast. This flexible role may also provide coverage for the Cancer Diagnostic Clinic in the Gary C. Werths building.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provides direct patient care to include obtaining patient history, performing patient assessment via observation, interview and examination; orders, performs and interprets diagnostic studies; performs preventative health assessments, screenings, immunizations and care; provides direct treatment and management of acute and chronic disease conditions; develops and implements patient-centered plan of care in collaboration with physicians, patients, consultants, nurses, ancillary care providers and others as appropriate to the patient's condition.
  • May bill for services covered by collaborative practice agreement.
  • Evaluate and manage oncology and hematology patients, including cancer-related conditions, treatment-associated toxicities, symptom management, survivorship care, supportive care, and coordination of treatment plans with the multidisciplinary cancer care team.
  • Monitors/ensures accuracy of patient medical records; maintains all required reports, records, statistics, etc.
  • Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with established clinic/hospital standards.
  • Manages health conditions via prescriptive authority or referral to other healthcare providers or community resources; may perform diagnostic or therapeutic interventions consistent with certification and state regulations.
  • Champions the safety and quality of care for patients using ITB therapy and serves as an expert in the care and management of ITB pumps. Helps develop a detailed educational program for the patients and lead the quality and safety initiative for the program.
  • Serves as clinical expert regarding rehabilitation nursing while demonstrating a high level of autonomy and expert skill in complex clinical nursing situations.
  • Provides management services for clinical research study projects; monitors participating subjects, including medication administration and family/patient education.
  • Works in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, and safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Regularly participates in constant quality improvement and process improvement activities centered on the goal of providing exceptional, evidence-based patient care.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops.
  • Contributes to the advancement of the rehabilitation nursing profession as a whole through research, publications, and presentations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Nurse Practitioner

  • Master of Science in Nursing with emphasis in the Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Advanced Practical Nurse licensure (or ability to successfully obtain licensure within three months of date of hire).
  • Certain/additional certifications may be necessary based on area of specialty.
  • Basic Life Support certification (Online Basic Life Support certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the Basic Life Support requirements).

Physician Assistant

  • Graduate of PA program.
  • Current PA licensure to practice in the state of Missouri and/or Illinois, depending on location, or ability to obtain within three months of date of hire.
  • Certain/additional certifications may be necessary based on area of specialty.
  • Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior oncology and/or hematology experience is strongly preferred. Candidates should demonstrate strong clinical assessment, communication, collaboration, and care-coordination skills and an ability to work effectively across multiple clinical settings.

Salary Range

$97,000.00 - $174,600.00 / Annually
