Type of Contract: Full-Time | Independent Contractor
Salary Range: $4,000–$5,000 USD per month, depending on experience and qualifications

Our client is seeking a skilled Controller with strong U.S. accounting experience and a background in healthcare services to oversee the accounting function for a growing homecare, hospice, and home health organization. With approximately $45 million in annual revenue, 350 full-time employees, and approximately 600 part-time care staff, you will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial reporting, strengthening accounting controls, and ensuring a timely and reliable month-end close. This role reports directly to the incoming CFO and serves as a critical accounting partner as their organization continues to grow.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the monthly close process and ensure timely, accurate financial statements and supporting schedules across the organization.
  • Maintain the integrity of the general ledger, including balance-sheet reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, debt, payroll-related accounts, and intercompany activity.
  • Ensure appropriate accounting policies, procedures, internal controls, and cutoff are consistently applied across entities, locations, departments, and service lines.
  • Prepare management reporting and provide clear analysis of significant budget-to-actual and period-over-period variances for the CFO and leadership team.
  • Work closely with the Payroll Lead and Billing Manager to ensure accounting records accurately reflect payroll, billing, collections, revenue, and related financial activity.
  • Lead year-end financial statement audit or review preparation and coordinate with external accountants, tax advisors, payroll, billing, and operational stakeholders.
  • Identify and implement improvements to accounting processes, reporting, automation, and close procedures using QuickBooks Online, Excel, Power BI, Reach Reporting, or similar systems.

Must-Have Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including significant ownership of a monthly close and financial reporting process.
  • Experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or comparable senior accounting professional.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and accrual-basis accounting, with substantial experience supporting U.S.-based companies.
  • Strong experience with financial statement preparation, balance-sheet reconciliations, general ledger review, and accounting controls.
  • Advanced proficiency with QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent written and spoken English, with the ability to work independently, meet deadlines, identify issues, and communicate financial matters clearly to the CFO.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA designation.
  • Healthcare accounting experience, particularly within home health, homecare, hospice, or another multi-location healthcare services organization.
  • Experience supporting organizations with $25M+ in revenue and a large employee or contracted care workforce.
  • Experience managing accounting across multiple legal entities, locations, departments, or service lines.
  • Experience leading a U.S. financial statement audit or review and improving or accelerating the month-end close.
  • Familiarity with Homecare Homebase (HCHB), AxisCare, Power BI, Reach Reporting, or similar healthcare and financial reporting systems.

Work Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week, with required overlap with U.S. business hours. The final schedule will be agreed upon with the selected candidate.

Reports To: Chief Financial Officer

Team Structure: The Controller works as part of a finance and accounting team that includes the CFO, Payroll Lead, and Billing Manager. This is an individual-contributor role with no direct reports.
