Job Description:
Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President, Financial Operations and Corporate Accounting, the Vice President, Finance Planning & Analysis (FP&A), serves as the enterprise leader responsible for financial planning, performance management, strategic decision support, and financial analytics across Beth Israel Lahey Health.
The VP serves as a trusted strategic advisor to the Chief Financial Officer, the SVP, Financial Operations and Corporate Accounting, the executive leadership team, and operating leaders by providing actionable financial insight that supports organizational strategy, long-term financial sustainability, operational excellence, and informed decision making.
This executive leads the organization's integrated operating and capital planning processes, long-range financial planning, forecasting, service line profitability, financial modeling, and enterprise performance reporting. The VP also provides executive oversight for system shared services and enterprise financial analytics while driving standardization, process improvement, and data-driven decision making across the health system.
The successful candidate combines exceptional financial acumen with healthcare operational expertise and a demonstrated ability to lead organizational transformation within a complex integrated delivery system.
Primary Responsibilities:
Enterprise Financial Planning & Analysis
- Lead all enterprise financial planning activities, including annual operating and capital budgets, long-range financial plans, rolling forecasts, and strategic financial modeling.
- Develop integrated financial plans that align organizational resources with Beth Israel Lahey Health's strategic priorities.
- Provide executive leadership with timely analysis of financial performance, emerging trends, operational risks, and strategic opportunities.
- Lead enterprise service line profitability analysis, margin improvement initiatives, and return-on-investment analyses.
- Evaluate reimbursement strategies, payer performance, value-based care initiatives, and other financial drivers impacting organizational performance.
- Develop sophisticated financial models supporting centralized business planning for the system including strategic initiatives, physician growth, capital investments, affiliations, partnerships, and acquisitions.
- Establish enterprise forecasting methodologies that improve forecast accuracy while identifying key business assumptions, risks, and opportunities. Executive & Board Decision Support
- Develop executive communications, Board materials, financial narratives and strategic messaging that clearly communicate organizational performance and priorities.
- Partner with the CFO, SVP, and executive leaders to prepare Board materials, financial narratives, and presentation content that clearly communicates organizational performance, strategic initiatives, financial risks, and opportunities.
- Support Board and committee meetings by providing financial insight, responding to inquiries, and ensuring directors have the information necessary to fulfill governance responsibilities.
- Translate complex financial and operational information into concise, actionable recommendations for executive and Board decision-making.
Performance Management & Executive Decision Support
- Develop enterprise financial dashboards, scorecards, and executive reporting that provide actionable insight into organizational performance.
- Establish key performance indicators and benchmarking methodologies to monitor financial and operational performance against internal goals and external peers.
- Lead monthly and quarterly financial performance reviews with executive leadership, providing recommendations to improve financial performance and operational efficiency.
- Translate complex financial information into meaningful business insights that support executive decision making.
- Prepare presentations and supporting analyses for executive leadership, Board committees, and other key stakeholders.
Strategic Finance
- Serve as the finance leader supporting enterprise strategic planning and organizational growth initiatives.
- Lead financial due diligence, valuation, business case development, and integration planning for mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, and other strategic partnerships.
- Partner with Treasury on capital allocation planning, debt capacity analysis, liquidity planning, cash flow forecasting, and balance sheet optimization.
- Evaluate strategic initiatives using financial and operational analytics to ensure alignment with organizational objectives and financial sustainability.
Shared Services Leadership
- Provide executive oversight for enterprise finance shared services, ensuring consistent, high-quality financial reporting and analytical support.
- Drive standardization of financial processes, reporting methodologies, and performance measurement across the health system.
- Lead System Services benchmarking and monthly, quarterly, and annual financial performance reviews against organizational targets, strategic objectives, and external industry benchmarks.
- Partner closely with Corporate Accounting to ensure financial reporting accuracy, effective internal controls, and alignment between planning and actual financial results.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on automation, simplification, and enhanced financial insight.
Organizational Leadership
- Build, mentor, and retain a high-performing FP&A organization recognized for analytical excellence, business partnership, and customer service.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Develop future finance leaders through coaching, succession planning, and professional development.
- Serve as a collaborative partner with division and hospital CFOs, physician enterprise leadership, operational executives, and corporate departments to improve enterprise financial performance.
Qualifications:
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required.
- MBA, CPA, MHA, or other relevant advanced degree strongly preferred.
Experience
- Minimum ten years of progressively responsible healthcare finance experience, including at least five years in senior leadership.
- Executive finance leadership experience within a large integrated healthcare delivery system; supporting multi-hospital health systems with revenues exceeding $3 billion.
- Demonstrated expertise in healthcare reimbursement, financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, capital planning, and financial modeling.
- Experience leading enterprise FP&A functions within complex matrix organizations.
- Experience supporting mergers, acquisitions, strategic planning, and organizational transformation preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Expert knowledge of healthcare finance, reimbursement methodologies, budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance management.
- Demonstrated ability to translate financial analysis into strategic business recommendations.

Pay Range:
$220,900.00 USD - $292,600.00 USDThe pay range listed for this position is the annual base salary range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. In addition to base compensation, this position may be eligible for additional compensation, which may include performance-based incentive bonuses.
