Description
Under general supervision, promotes community awareness of early education, health and wellness programs for children and families; attends, facilitates, and engages in community outreach for programs as well as information relevant for early education, health and wellness for children and families; prepares materials used for outreach.
SALARY INFORMATION (Steps A-E)
*5% Bilingual incentive pay may be offered based on departmental needs and successful completion of the required bilingual proficiency exam.
This Extra Help position is a max of 1000 hours a year (averaging 18-22 hours per week) TBD and does not qualify for benefits.
POSITION INFORMATION
As stewards of Proposition 10 tobacco tax funding, First 5 Tehama aims to invest in efforts that will have the most effective and positive impact on young children and our community. Under supervision from the Executive Director, the Outreach Technician is responsible for providing community outreach for programs as well as information relevant for education, health and wellness for children and families. As part of a team of professionals and partners the Outreach Technician plays a vital role in the achievement of First 5 Tehama’s vision of all Tehama County families thriving and being hopeful and resilient by accessing the resources they need.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Attend community outreach events and activities.
- Represent First 5 Tehama’s mission, values, and commitment to families with young children.
- Share information about First 5 Tehama programs and other community programs serving parents, caregivers, and children ages 0–5.
- Assist families with program enrollment and referrals during outreach events.
- Engage children in interactive, age-appropriate activities during outreach events.
- Participate in different training sessions to increase knowledge of First 5 Tehama programs, community resources, and outreach practices.
- Enter participant and program information into online portals for specialized grants and programs.
- Assist with outreach programming, including story hours, family activities, and community events.
- Prepare books, handouts, activity supplies, and other outreach materials under supervision.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of education and experience sufficient to directly demonstrate possession and application of the following:
Education & Experience: (Combination of education and experience equivalents to)
- Outreach Technician I/II: Graduation from high school or equivalent (GED)
- Outreach Technician I: No experience required
- Outreach Technician II: Two (2) years of office support experience involving customer service and contact with the public or one (1) year of experience in an Outreach Technician I classification with First 5 Tehama or similar agency.
- Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Possession of a valid California driver’s license and proof of current automobile insurance coverage
- The employee will be expected to use her/his own vehicle for travel within Tehama County and surrounding region.
- Willingness to be fingerprinted
- The employee will be required to work evenings and weekends
- Occasional overnight travel may be required

The Tehama County Children & Families Commission is recruiting for one (1) Extra Help position.
In addition, an eligibility list will be established to fill future vacancies for an Extra Help Outreach Technician I/II , as well as subsequent vacancies which occur during the life of the eligibility list.
