Job Description:
Purpose• The Research Medical Director will provide leadership and direction for research within the Research Program. This position will lead the Research Program team in evaluation, operation and execution of clinical research.
• This role will provide direction, strategic vision and oversight of the building, development and expansion of research within Research Program Services.
• Included is the responsibility to pursue the strategic plan that ensures financial sustainability of the program, including growth. This position unifies diverse Program research including Specialty clinical trials, Specialty care delivery research, outcomes research, precision health, quality improvement projects.
• This position will work closely with the Research Specialty Clinical Program, Office of Research, Research Program Clinical trials department, and Research Specialty caregivers throughout the entire system to build on common interests and projects, ensure coordination, improve efficiencies, and be involved in strategic allocation of resources. This position facilitates the relationship between these entities.
• The position will also help guide and direct research endeavors as they affect future geographic and programmatic expansion of Intermountain Health.
Job Essentials
1. Provide strategic leadership for the Specialty Research Program. Define Intermountain’s Specialty Research Strategic Plan.
a. Integrate global knowledge such as scientific rationale and industry trends, national knowledge such as regulatory requirements and commercial goals, and Intermountain-specific knowledge such as product development plans and faculty development opportunities to create a strategic plan focusing on growth, financial sustainability, and caregiver engagement.
b. Aid in goal setting for individual Study-Groups and PIs Partner with Operations and Marketing leaders to advance Intermountain’s reputation related to the research program.
c. Grow reputation in major studies with operations leads and clinical service line leads.
d. Partner with Operations to plan Specialty Research program growth.
provide medical oversight and direction; provide focus on study design and execution; incorporate medical data reviews for data integrity.
2. Lead the Operational Stewardship of Specialty Research Program.
a. Lead operations in partnership with Research Operations Manager Dyad.
b. Develop approaches and protocols to demonstrate efficacy.
c. Engage external experts to accumulate, review, analyze and communicate scientific and medical knowledge necessary to support clinical development.
d. Ensure studies and initiatives are consistent with overall program goals and the Research Leadership Team.
3. Lead the Administrative Stewardship of Specialty Research Program.
a. Serve as a member of a minimum of 1 research committee. Committees include but are not limited to the Research Equity Committee, Academic Retention and Promotion Committee.
b. Attend Research Leadership team meetings.
c. Supervise monthly Department Research meetings.
4. Lead recruitment for Specialty Research Program in alignment with defined growth plans.
a. Lead recruitment efforts for the research program including organizing/attending on-site recruitment events, conference networking, and other recruiting events approved by Intermountain’s Research Operations Director.
b. Partner with Intermountain Recruiting Team when applicable.
5. Mentor Investigators.
