Chapter Lead Safe Data (Data Privacy) – ING Netherlands

Shape the future of Data Privacy, Responsible Data & AI at ING

At ING, we believe that data is one of our most valuable assets. At the same time, protecting customer data and maintaining trust is fundamental to everything we do.

We are looking for an inspiring and experienced Chapter Lead to lead our Safe Data Privacy team within ING Netherlands. This is a unique leadership role at the intersection of Data Privacy, Data Management, AI, Risk and Business Transformation.

As Chapter Lead, you will lead a team of highly skilled privacy professionals who help ING navigate an increasingly complex regulatory landscape while enabling innovation and responsible use of data and AI. Together, you will ensure that privacy and data protection are embedded by design into our processes, products and services.

This role offers a rare opportunity to influence how one of Europe's leading banks balances innovation, customer value and regulatory compliance in the age of Data and AI.

Your impact

As Chapter Lead Safe Data Privacy, you will:

  • Lead, coach and develop a chapter of privacy professionals, fostering a culture of expertise, ownership and continuous learning.
  • Define and drive the strategic direction of Data Privacy within ING Netherlands in close collaboration with the Tribe Lead, Data Protection Executive (DPE), Data Protection Officer (DPO) and senior stakeholders across the bank.
  • Ensure ING continues to comply with privacy regulations, including GDPR and emerging regulations such as the EU AI Act.
  • Help ING balance regulatory requirements with business innovation and data-driven ambitions.
  • Strengthen privacy-by-design and responsible AI principles across products, processes and customer journeys.
  • Represent the Safe Data Privacy team in senior governance forums and strategic initiatives.
  • Drive continuous improvement of privacy processes, controls and operating models.
  • Build a strong chapter by attracting, developing and retaining top talent.

About the team

The Safe Data Area is part of the Data Management NL tribe, ING's centre of expertise for Data Governance, Data Privacy, Data Quality, Metadata, Data Products and Data Enablement.

The Safe Data Area consists of two complementary teams:

  • A Data Privacy team focused on privacy, customer data protection and regulatory compliance.
  • A Data Governance team focused on data management frameworks, controls and governance.

Together, these teams enable ING to unlock the value of data while ensuring it is handled safely, responsibly and in compliance with internal and external requirements.

As Chapter Lead Data Privacy, you will work closely with colleagues across ING Netherlands, including Business, Operations, Tech, Legal, Compliance, Non-Financial Risk, and ING's global data and privacy communities.

What you'll bring

We are looking for a leader who combines deep expertise with the ability to inspire and influence.

You have:

  • A Master's degree, preferably in Law, Privacy, Risk Management, Data Management or a related discipline.
  • Extensive expertise in Data Privacy and regulatory frameworks such as GDPR.
  • Good understanding of emerging regulations and developments, including Responsible AI and the EU AI Act.
  • Proven leadership experience in managing and developing teams of professionals.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to influence senior leaders across organisational boundaries.
  • Experience operating in complex environments with multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
  • A strategic mindset combined with a pragmatic, delivery-focused attitude.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills in both Dutch and English.
  • Experience within the financial sector is considered a strong advantage.

What makes this role unique

This is more than a traditional privacy leadership role.

You will help shape how ING uses data and AI responsibly in a rapidly changing regulatory environment. You will work at the centre of strategic discussions on privacy, customer trust, innovation and digital transformation.

You will have direct impact on topics that matter to millions of customers while helping ING build a sustainable competitive advantage through trusted and responsible use of data.

What we offer

At ING, we invest in people who want to make a difference.

We offer:

  • A challenging leadership role with organisation-wide impact.
  • The opportunity to work with highly skilled professionals and senior stakeholders across ING.
  • A culture that encourages learning, growth and innovation.
  • Hybrid working and flexibility to support a healthy work-life balance.
  • Excellent employment conditions, including:
    • Competitive salary package
    • 13th month
    • 8% holiday allowance
    • Individual Savings Contribution (BIS)
    • Pension scheme
    • 24-27 vacation days
    • Extensive personal and professional development opportunities
