Become part of a winning team and help to deliver the Green Energy transition.GE Vernova is seeking a Lead Hardware Engineer to design and support embedded hardware platforms used in energy and power systems.
This role combines deep technical problem-solving, support of R&D and manufacturing, and local technical leadership, while operating as part of a globally distributed engineering organisation.
As the successful candidate, you will work across the full product lifecycle from new product introduction (NPI) through to sustaining engineering, and manufacturing, and will be seen as the technical anchor for a UK-based hardware support team across multiple product ranges.
Job Description
Hardware Engineering & Technical Support
- Design and troubleshoot complex analogue, digital, and mixed-signal electronics issues at board and system level, including Ethernet technologies.
- Redesign up to Core CPU level with High-Speed Memory constraints, using complex FPGA and CPLD Architecture.
- Provide design support for Control and Protection hardware designs across development, manufacturing, and deployed systems.
- Review and support schematics, PCB layouts, and design documentation.
- Collaborate closely with firmware, systems, safety, and verification teams during design, and test development teams during outsource activities.
R&D and Product Lifecycle Support
- Support R&D activities including prototype bring-up, validation, and verification testing.
- Contribute to design-for-manufacture (DFM), design-for-test (DFT), reliability, and serviceability improvements.
- Support engineering change management, component selection, and obsolescence mitigation.
Manufacturing & Supplier Interface
- Assist with transition from development into manufacturing and volume production.
- Provide technical support to manufacturing sites and contract manufacturers.
- Support production test development and resolution of yield or test failures.
- Interface with suppliers on component quality, technical issues, using structured root cause analysis (RCA) to drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
Leadership & Global Collaboration
- Demonstrate technical leadership within GE Vernova’s global R&D and engineering structure.
- Act as a key technical interface between UK engineering, global R&D teams, and manufacturing.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes and knowledge sharing.
Basic Qualifications
- Formal Qualification in Electronics Discipline; Degree Level preferred however HNC / HND level with proven industry involvement accepted.
Technical Expertise
- Advanced design background in analogue and digital electronics, including mixed-signal designs.
- Experience with embedded hardware systems in industrial or energy-related applications.
- Proven hands-on troubleshooting skills using standard lab equipment (oscilloscope, logic analyser, DMM, etc.).
- Ability to interpret schematics, PCB layouts, and technical reports.
- Understanding of hardware reliability, failure analysis, and lifecycle support.
Experience
- Experience supporting hardware across R&D, NPI, and manufacturing.
- Exposure to manufacturing support, production test, and supplier engagement.
- Experience working in global matrixed engineering organizations.
- Some technical leadership or team coordination experience preferred.
Professional Skills
- Structured problem-solving mindset.
- Clear and effective technical communication.
- Ability to manage multiple technical issues and small projects in parallel.
- Comfortable working in regulated, safety-critical, or high-reliability environments.
Desired Characteristics
- Design Experience with energy, power electronics, grid, or industrial control systems.
- Knowledge of relevant standards (e.g. safety, EMC, environmental).
- Prior experience in sustaining engineering, field support, or reliability engineering roles.
