About This Opportunity 

Join a purpose-driven team advancing healthcare through world-class research at UQ. As an Implementation Scientist within the UQ ULTRA Team, you’ll play a pivotal role in delivering and evaluating the implementation methodologies within a clinical trial led by the Australian Kidney Trials Network (AKTN).

The IMPLEMENT-CKD project is a co-designed, multi-phased, multi-country health systems strengthening intervention aimed at improving equitable access to and sustained use of SGLT2i in Thailand, the Pacific Islands and other countries. The study is a multi-phased, mixed-method, adaptive implementation study that is tailored to local contexts, emphasising stakeholder engagement, cultural adaptation, and scalable care models.

Working in a collaborative and high-performing environment, you’ll coordinate pre-implementation stakeholder engagement and codesign activities including local context assessments and workshops, supporting local champions, co-develop, and monitor tailored implementation strategies that address local barriers and enablers. This will lead to the co-development of the Implementation Strategy Framework for IMPLEMENT-CKD in collaboration with the broader trial team.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Pre-implementation stakeholder engagement and context assessments: Support planning for stakeholder engagement, context assessments, co-design development, consensus-building methods to tailor implementation strategies for local settings.

• Identify and prepare champions: Identify and train local champions to deliver culturally appropriate participatory consensus methods to facilitate local engagement and implementation activities.

• Co-development of Implementation Strategy Framework: In collaboration with study investigators, use an implementation research logic model to create an Implementation Strategy Framework to appropriately address barriers and enablers for each study context.

• Implementation science methods and analysis: Contribute to the collaborative research culture within the team by acting as a key coordination contact for pre-implementation planning and engagement activities for investigators and sites and knowledge sharing implementation expertise. Design and engage with innovative implementation science methodologies that benefit clinical trial performance. Perform implementation data analysis, writing and dissemination activities.

About You  

Our ideal candidate will possess:

• Implementation Science in clinical trials expertise: A PhD (or near completion) in a scientific, nursing or health related discipline with demonstrated experience with implementation science methods in randomised controlled trials. Multi-site and multi-national trial experience is desirable.

• Implementation Research Methodology: Strong understanding of implementation science methods in particular co-design and stakeholder engagement, context assessments, logic models to support co-development of implementation strategies, and qualitative and quantitative approaches to measurement of implementation outcomes. Demonstrated track record of implementation research.

• Project Management: Ability to prioritise tasks, monitor timelines, and support delivery of milestones in an academic and clinical research environment, meeting deadlines and ensuring tasks are followed through to completion.

• Quality Management: High standards of accuracy and precision across all aspects of project management, including documentation, data integrity, legislature compliance, and reporting, with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving discrepancies. Ability to prepare and disseminate reports to the project team and other reports required to meet external funding requirements.

• Communication & Stakeholder Engagement: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to liaise effectively with investigators, trial sites and collaborators, with the ability to create and maintain relationships across a range of internal and external stakeholders. High level of personal motivation and initiative with the ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary research team. Excellent written communication skills.
