Technical Specialist 2, Asset Management

Job Summary:

The Asset & Equipment Engineering function governs technical requirements and lifecycle standards for major electrical equipment, ensuring quality, reliability, and system‑wide interchangeability. Responsibilities include developing and maintaining technical specifications, managing approved manufacturers and vendors, defining standard equipment models, overseeing FAT and technical acceptance, and leading strategies for strategic spares and obsolescence. The team coordinates vendor engineering, integrates lessons learned into standards, and provides technical support for replacement and investment decisions.


Reporting to the Supervisor/Manager this position is responsible for executing routine technical activities and coordinating and supporting more complex technical deliverables. The role requires technical aptitude, problem-solving ability, and excellent teamwork skills to be successful.

• Applies technical knowledge to help promote a safe work environment and to enhance customer satisfaction.

Job Description:

• Assist and performs assignments in specialized areas requiring technical skills.

• Supports projects within scope, schedule, and cost.  

• Supports review of functional specifications for completeness and consider practical limitations. 

• Collaborates with design activities as a member of a multi-disciplinary technical team. 

• Supports with basic work planning, budgeting and cost estimating.  

• Supports development and updating single line diagrams, and design drawings, and equipment specifications.  Supports material procurement.

• Supports QA/QC process. 

• Provides technical support to field and construction groups. 

•  Assist with and improvement processes and standards. 

• Collaborates with reporting, including presentations to work groups and management. 

• Position may be required to work extended hours including major storm restoration work and associated drills as assigned.

• Other duties as assigned. 

Additional Job Description:

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience

• BS in a technical field from ABET-accredited college.
• Two years of applicable experience or a combination of education and applicable experience.  Master’s degree counts as one year.

• General knowledge and experience with regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, and practices necessary to perform assignments for a specific discipline, various installations, or services
• Business knowledge in the utility & regulated environment. 
• Proven experience applying sound judgment to make decisions.
• Strong interpersonal and relationship development skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to effectively interact with internal and external customers.
• Excellent team player and ability to prioritize assignments to meet commitments.
• Problem-solving skills with proven ability to resolve engineering issues.
• Mentor to junior team members.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced degree in a technical discipline. 
• Experience in utility industry trade organizations.
