Position Summary:

The Department of Criminal Justice & Forensic Investigation at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Forensic Investigation, a FEPAC accredited program. This is a full-time, nine-month, benefits eligible position starting in August of 2027, with a salary range of $64,000 - $68,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The ideal candidate will specialize in digital forensics and have experience applying digital forensics in criminal investigations. 

Key Job Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated competency teaching multiple existing courses (e.g., Cybercrime Investigation, senior capstone course) and the capacity to develop and teach courses within their area of expertise. The typical teaching load is 4 courses per semester (4/4).

Other responsibilities include:

• Engaging in scholarly activities.
• Providing academic advising to students.
• Participating in department, college, university and community service and outreach activities.
• Contributing to curriculum development, assessment, and revisions.
• Collaborating with students and faculty on academic, research, and program-related activities.

Other duties may be assigned by the Department Chair.

Required Qualifications:

• A doctoral degree in Forensic Science, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or related field earned by January 1, 2028; OR

• A Masters of Science (MS) degree in Forensic Science, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or related field and at least five years of professional work experience in criminal investigations using digital forensics or a related field.

• Experience teaching at least one semester of an undergraduate-level course.

• Evidence of a strong commitment to undergraduate education in a liberal arts environment. 

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

The Department of Criminal Justice & Forensic Investigation’s Criminal Justice and Forensic Investigation programs in the College of Liberal Arts and Education have 8 full-time tenure-track positions and regularly employ an additional 8 instructional academic staff. The undergraduate program offers a BA/BS in Criminal Justice and BS in Forensic Investigation. The department offers a BS and MS in Criminal Justice in an online asynchronous modality. The department’s undergraduate majors combined have over 525 on-campus students and over 140 online students, making it the third largest department by undergraduate majors.

In March 2026, the department received FEPAC accreditation for all three of the Forensic Investigation degree emphases (Crime Scene, Medicolegal Death Investigation, and Laboratory). This recognition also places UW-Platteville among just 32 bachelor's degree programs in the country to hold FEPAC accreditation. Five of those programs are accredited in Crime Scene Investigation. UW-Platteville is the only program in the country with an accredited Medicolegal Death Investigation emphasis. 

The Forensic Investigation program is home to the Forensic Investigation Crime Scene House (FICSH), the Decomposition/Taphonomy facility adjoining the FICSH, a criminalistics/fingerprinting lab, and a dry forensic anthropology lab. With around 340 students, the Forensic Investigation program is the fifth largest on-campus major.
