Who You Are

The Medical Assistant (MA) supports physicians, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare professionals by performing both clinical and administrative duties to ensure efficient patient care and office operations. This position serves as a key point of contact for patients and is responsible for delivering compassionate, high-quality service while maintaining compliance with all applicable healthcare regulations and privacy standards.

What You'll Do

Clinical Responsibilities

• Prepare patients for examinations and procedures by obtaining and documenting medical histories, current medications, allergies, and chief complaints.
• Measure and record vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, height, weight, and oxygen saturation.
• Assist providers during examinations, minor procedures, and treatments.
• Administer injections, immunizations, medications, and treatments as permitted by state regulations and provider orders.
• Perform phlebotomy, specimen collection, and basic laboratory testing as required.
• Prepare and process laboratory specimens for outside testing.
• Conduct electrocardiograms (EKGs), hearing and vision screenings, and other diagnostic procedures as directed.
• Clean, stock, and prepare examination rooms between patient visits.
• Maintain clinical equipment and ensure proper sterilization and infection control procedures.
• Provide patient education regarding medications, treatment plans, and preventive care instructions.

Administrative Responsibilities

• Schedule patient appointments and coordinate referrals to specialists.
• Verify patient demographics, insurance information, and eligibility.
• Obtain prior authorizations and assist with referrals as needed.
• Accurately document patient information in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
• Answer and route telephone calls, patient portal messages, and other communications.
• Assist with prescription refill requests according to office protocols.
• Maintain accurate patient records and ensure compliance with HIPAA requirements.
• Support front-office functions during periods of high patient volume.

Patient Care and Customer Service

• Greet patients in a professional, courteous, and compassionate manner.
• Ensure patient comfort and confidentiality throughout the care experience.
• Address patient concerns and direct questions to the appropriate provider or department.
• Promote a positive patient experience and contribute to patient satisfaction initiatives.

What You Bring

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish required.
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
• Current Medical Assistant certification (CMA, RMA, CCMA, or equivalent) preferred.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification required or obtained within a specified timeframe.
• Minimum of one (1) year of medical office or clinical experience preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, infection control, and patient care procedures.
• Experience using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.

What We Offer

• On-site, Farmingdale, NY; travel required.
• Compensation: $17.00-$18.50 per hour.
