Data Center Operations – S2 (Shift 2) Job Description
Role Overview
The Data Center Operations – S2 position is a shift-based role focused on maintaining the operational integrity, safety, and efficiency of a data center’s infrastructure. This role is typically part of a larger team responsible for ensuring 24/7 uptime, compliance, and smooth operations across multiple shifts.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Management: Oversee daily data center activities, including monitoring system performance, environmental controls, and infrastructure health.
- Change & Incident Management: Execute change control procedures, respond to incidents, and serve as the first-line escalation point for serious technical issues.
- Compliance & Safety: Ensure adherence to data center policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements; maintain security in data center halls.
- Vendor & Project Support: Manage vendor work, service contracts, and participate in project commissioning; assist in budgeting and procurement.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of equipment, incidents, and maintenance; update asset locations and statuses.
- Team Support: Assist senior managers and technicians; train staff on operational procedures and best practices.
- Shift Duties: Work in the S2 shift (4 PM – 4AM PM Monday–Friday (4AM – 4PM Monday–Friday) to ensure coverage and continuity.
Required Skills & Experience
- 5+ years in data center environments or related technical fields.
- Strong knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and communications infrastructure (power, cooling, fire life safety, structured cabling).
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical team.
Work Environment
- On-site in a data center facility, often in rotating or shift-based schedules.
- Requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and the ability to work in high-density, high-pressure environments.
