Elderwood Administrative Services is seeking a Staff Accountant with a strong foundation in financial accounting and practical, hands-on Excel skills. This role requires someone who is comfortable working with journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, financial statements, and detailed financial data - not simply someone seeking their first exposure to these concepts.

 

Working onsite with our Corporate Finance team, you will support financial operations across a diverse healthcare organization that includes skilled nursing, assisted living, pediatric specialty care, and pharmacy operations. You will have direct exposure to facility leaders, operational partners, and executive leadership while developing a broad understanding of the business behind the numbers.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do As a Staff Accountant:

• Perform monthly financial accounting and analysis for assigned companies.
• Prepare internal financial statements for operational leaders and external financial statements for lenders.
• Analyze financial performance, including budget variances and month-over-month trends.
• Present monthly operating results and financial insights to facility leadership and the executive team.
• Support the monthly close process for multiple companies, including expense accruals, adjusting entries, and balance-sheet reconciliations.
• Partner with facility administrators and department leaders to review financial reports, budget comparisons, and operating results.
• Assist with annual budget preparation.
• Prepare audit workpapers and supporting schedules for external auditors.
• Contribute to special projects and other financial initiatives as needed.

Qualifications

Qualifications Needed for Success as a Staff Accountant

Required

• Demonstrated understanding of foundational financial accounting concepts, including debits and credits, journal entries, accrual accounting, account reconciliations, and the relationship among financial statements.

• Practical experience supporting monthly close and preparing or reviewing journal entries and balance-sheet reconciliations.

• Strong working proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, with heavy use of Excel.

• Ability to use Excel to organize and analyze financial information, including formulas, sorting and filtering, pivot tables, and lookup functions.

• Ability to review financial results, identify discrepancies, investigate underlying causes, and communicate findings clearly.

• Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through.

• Ability to explain financial information clearly to both accounting and operational partners.

• Ability to work collaboratively in a fully onsite corporate environment.

Preferred

• Experience with accounting or enterprise financial software.

• Experience with Sage Intacct and/or Microsoft Dynamics GP/Great Plains.
