What you will do
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Project Cost Analyst to support project teams in the planning, monitoring, and control of project budgets and costs. This position plays a key role in ensuring project financial performance through budget development, cost tracking, forecasting, reporting, and analysis.
The successful candidate will work closely with project analyst lead, project managers, accounting, operations, procurement, and engineering teams to provide accurate financial information and support informed decision-making throughout the project lifecycle.
How you will do it
- Support the development, maintenance, and control of project budgets and cost baselines.
- Monitor project costs, commitments, and budget performance throughout the project lifecycle.
- Assist with monthly cost reporting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Analyze actual costs against budget and forecast, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Collaborate with project teams to gather, validate, and analyze project financial data.
- Support project setup and ongoing maintenance within the accounting systems.
- Prepare project performance reports, dashboards, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
- Identify potential cost risks and support the development of mitigation strategies.
- Ensure project controls processes and reporting requirements are followed consistently.
- Provide ad hoc financial analysis and reporting as required by project and management teams.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to project controls, budgeting, and reporting processes.
What we look for
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Project Management, or a related field.
- 1-3 years of experience in project controls, project analysis, accounting, finance, or a related discipline is considered an asset.
- Strong understanding of budgeting, cost control, forecasting, and financial analysis principles.
- Experience working with project-based financial reporting is preferred.
- Experience in construction, industrial, energy, or engineering environments is considered an asset.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
- Experience with ERP systems and project accounting software is considered an asset.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to build collaborative relationships across multiple departments.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a team-oriented environment.
