Description
This is a highly visible, customer-facing role that combines business development, technical sales, account management, and commercial leadership. The ideal candidate understands the municipal water market, is comfortable selling technical solutions, and has a proven ability to build relationships that generate long-term business.
Location Requirement
To effectively support customers throughout the assigned territory, candidates must reside within the Northeast or Mid-Atlantic region of the United States at the time of hire or be willing to relocate prior to their start date. Regular travel throughout the territory is required to meet with customers, conduct site visits, and support business development activities.
Responsibilities
- Identify, develop, and pursue new business opportunities within municipal drinking water and related water treatment markets.
- Build and maintain relationships with utilities, consulting engineers, contractors, industrial customers, technology partners, and other key stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain a strong pipeline of qualified opportunities and strategic accounts.
- Conduct customer meetings, site visits, presentations, discovery calls, and other business development activities.
- Support the sale of Sentinel’s PFAS treatment solutions, GAC and IX systems and services, pilot systems, pressure vessels, treatment skids, and related equipment.
- Work with Engineering, Operations, Product Management, and leadership to develop solutions that meet customer and project requirements.
- Coordinate proposals, quotations, presentations, pricing strategies, and commercial follow-up.
- Track upcoming projects, bid opportunities, regulatory drivers, competitive activity, and customer needs.
- Provide direction and coordination to internal and third-party sales resources to ensure consistent prospecting and customer follow-up.
- Manage sales pipeline activity, forecasts, CRM records, and major opportunity updates.
- Support negotiations and advancement of opportunities through contract award and project handoff.
- Represent Sentinel at conferences, trade shows, industry events, customer meetings, and technical presentations.
- Provide market and customer feedback to help guide product development, pricing, positioning, and commercial strategy.
- Meet or exceed established pipeline, revenue, account development, and business growth objectives.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in business development, technical sales, account management, or a related commercial role.
- Experience within municipal water, water treatment, environmental services, engineered equipment, infrastructure, or a related industry strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to prospect, develop relationships, and advance opportunities through the sales cycle.
- Strong customer-facing, presentation, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Ability to understand technical products and translate customer requirements into commercial opportunities.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple customers, projects, and opportunities simultaneously.
- Experience working collaboratively with engineering, operations, technical, and leadership teams.
- Ability to work independently in a growing, fast-paced organization.
- Proficiency with CRM systems and pipeline/forecast management.
- Willingness and ability to travel approximately 50–70% for customer meetings, site visits, conferences, and industry events.
- Established experience within the municipal drinking water market.
- Knowledge of PFAS treatment, GAC, ion exchange, filtration, or other water treatment technologies.
- Experience selling engineered equipment, treatment systems, or industrial capital equipment.
- Existing relationships with utilities, consulting engineering firms, contractors, or water industry partners.
- Experience directing or coordinating internal sales personnel, manufacturers’ representatives, or third-party sales resources.
