POSITION SUMMARY

Custom Manufacturing & Engineering, Inc. ("CME") is seeking a skilled Cable & Wire Harness Production Assembler to fabricate, assemble, terminate, and inspect electrical cable and wire harness assemblies for aerospace, defense, and other demanding applications. Work is performed in accordance with engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, work instructions, customer requirements, and applicable quality and workmanship standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Read and follow engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, bills of material, work instructions, and production documentation.

  • Measure, cut, strip, route, and terminate electrical wire and cable.

  • Perform crimping, soldering, splicing, pinning, connector assembly, and related harness operations.

  • Install terminals, contacts, connectors, backshells, sleeving, heat-shrink, shielding, labels, and related hardware.

  • Route, bundle, lace, tie, and secure cable and wire harness assemblies.

  • Use wire strippers, crimpers, soldering equipment, insertion/extraction tools, heat guns, torque tools, and other production equipment.

  • Perform continuity, point-to-point, and other required basic electrical testing.

  • Inspect completed work for proper assembly, dimensions, termination, labeling, and workmanship.

  • Identify and report nonconforming materials, workmanship defects, and drawing or production discrepancies.

  • Complete required production, inspection, and traceability documentation.

  • Follow applicable ESD, FOD, safety, quality, and material-handling procedures.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and perform other related production duties as assigned.

QUALITY AND WORKMANSHIP

Work must comply with applicable customer requirements, engineering documentation, CME quality procedures, and, where required, IPC/WHMA-A-620 and J-STD-001 workmanship standards. IPC/WHMA-A-620 addresses manufacturing and acceptance requirements for crimped, mechanically secured, and soldered cable and wire harness interconnections.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent education and experience.

  • Ability to read and follow drawings, wiring diagrams, work instructions, and production documentation.

  • Good manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and ability to distinguish color-coded wiring.

  • Ability to perform detailed assembly work using hand tools and production equipment.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

  • Ability to work independently following training and effectively as part of a manufacturing team.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous cable/wire harness, electrical, or electronics assembly experience.

  • Experience with crimping, soldering, connector assembly, and electrical testing.

  • IPC/WHMA-A-620 and/or J-STD-001 training or certification.

  • Aerospace or defense manufacturing experience.

  • Experience in an ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 quality environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to sit or stand for extended periods; perform repetitive, detailed hand assembly; visually inspect small components and color-coded wiring; bend and reach as necessary; and safely use required tools and production equipment, with reasonable accommodation where applicable.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed primarily in a manufacturing environment and requires compliance with applicable safety, ESD, FOD, security, quality, and personal protective equipment requirements.
