This position reports to:
Technical Product Manager__
Your Role and Responsibilities
As an R&D Testing & Lab Specialist, you will play a key role in testing and validating innovative electrical distribution products, including consumer units, plastic enclosures, and installation materials. You will be responsible for executing laboratory test plans, maintaining certifications, coordinating with external laboratories and certification bodies, and ensuring compliance with relevant quality standards and electrical regulations.
Your main responsibilities include:
- Executing routine and qualification tests for new and existing products.
- Defining, planning, and executing test plans while ensuring timely completion.
- Maintaining product certifications and supporting certification processes.
- Coordinating testing activities with external laboratories and certification bodies.
- Identifying product non-conformities and proposing technical solutions.
- Supporting maintenance activities for laboratory equipment and test setups.
- Assisting external certification inspectors during product testing activities.
- Ensuring prototypes are assembled correctly and that test results are accurately documented and reported.
Your Working Environment
You will be based at ABB's R&D Center in Ede, part of the Smart Buildings Business Line. The team develops and validates products used by grid operators, installers, OEMs, and distributors.
This is an office-based position. You will primarily work from our Ede location and occasionally travel within the Benelux region to external laboratories, certification bodies, and ABB facilities, including our factory in Belgium. Travel accounts for approximately 25% of your time.
Your Team
You will join a team of approximately 20 professionals, with 16 colleagues based in the Netherlands and additional team members located in Belgium and Spain. The team combines extensive technical expertise with a collaborative and supportive culture.
Everyone contributes to a shared goal, and international collaboration is a key part of the role. You will work closely with colleagues across multiple countries and functions to ensure successful product development and certification.

Qualifications for the Role
You are a hands-on technical professional who enjoys working independently while collaborating with colleagues across international teams.
Required qualifications:
- Completed MBO Level 4 education in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a completed HBO degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum of 3 years of technical work experience.
- Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles and electrical standards.
- Ability to read and interpret standards, regulations, technical specifications, and test plans.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in international environments.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience working in a laboratory environment.
- Experience working with certification bodies or product certification processes.
- NEN 3140 certification.
