Description
Summary
Our client is a well-established Southern California commercial general contractor with more than 20 years of experience delivering commercial and industrial construction projects. Their work includes ground-up commercial construction, concrete tilt-ups, design-build and design-assist projects, tenant improvements, structural rehabilitations, and other complex commercial developments. They are seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent to take ownership of day-to-day field operations and ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on schedule, and to the highest standards of quality. This role is ideal for a hands-on construction leader who can effectively manage subcontractors and field personnel, coordinate with Project Managers and clients, anticipate project challenges, and maintain strong relationships across the entire project team.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Field Leadership & Project Execution
- Take overall responsibility for day-to-day field operations from project mobilization through completion and turnover.
- Direct and coordinate subcontractors, vendors, and field personnel to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to project plans and specifications.
- Establish and maintain project schedules, sequencing, manpower planning, and daily work activities.
- Coordinate multiple trades and ensure construction activities are properly sequenced to maintain project momentum.
- Conduct regular jobsite meetings and coordinate daily activities with subcontractors and project team members.
- Identify potential schedule, quality, safety, and constructability issues early and implement effective solutions.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and productive jobsite throughout all phases of construction.
- Coordinate inspections, testing, site logistics, deliveries, and other field activities as required.
- Ensure work is completed in accordance with approved plans, specifications, applicable codes, and project requirements.
- Project Coordination & Communication
- Work closely with the Project Manager throughout preconstruction, mobilization, construction, and project closeout.
- Review plans, specifications, submittals, RFIs, schedules, and other project documents to identify field impacts and potential conflicts.
- Coordinate with architects, engineers, consultants, inspectors, owners, subcontractors, and suppliers to resolve field issues.
- Participate in project meetings and provide accurate updates regarding progress, schedule, manpower, materials, and potential risks.
- Communicate changes, delays, site conditions, and other project issues to the Project Manager in a timely manner.
- Assist with constructability reviews and provide field input during preconstruction and planning.
- Maintain strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors, design professionals, and internal project teams.
- Safety & Quality Control
- Promote and maintain a strong jobsite safety culture and ensure compliance with OSHA requirements and company safety policies.
- Conduct and participate in safety meetings, inspections, and jobsite orientations.
- Monitor subcontractor safety practices and address unsafe conditions immediately.
- Maintain quality control throughout all phases of construction.
- Verify that work is performed according to plans, specifications, manufacturer requirements, and applicable building codes.
- Identify deficiencies and coordinate corrective action before they impact the schedule or subsequent trades.
- Manage punch-list activities and ensure timely completion of outstanding work.
- Scheduling & Documentation
- Develop and maintain short-term and look-ahead schedules in coordination with the Project Manager and subcontractors.
- Track project progress against the overall construction schedule and proactively address potential delays.
- Coordinate material deliveries, equipment, site access, and other logistical requirements.
- Maintain accurate daily reports, site documentation, photographs, manpower records, and progress updates.
- Assist with project closeout, inspections, punch lists, final documentation, and turnover.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Required Experience
- Minimum 5+ years of commercial construction experience as a Superintendent or similar field leadership role.
- Proven experience managing commercial and/or industrial construction projects from mobilization through completion.
- Strong experience coordinating subcontractors, multiple trades, inspections, schedules, and daily field operations.
- Experience with ground-up construction, tenant improvements, renovations, or structural rehabilitation.
- Strong understanding of commercial construction methods, sequencing, scheduling, quality control, and site logistics.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, schedules, and contracts.
- Strong understanding of applicable building codes, OSHA requirements, and construction safety practices.
- Technical Skills
- Proficiency with construction management and documentation platforms such as Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, or similar.
- Ability to review plans, specifications, RFIs, submittals, and other construction documents.
- Strong understanding of scheduling, manpower planning, subcontractor coordination, and project documentation.
- OSHA 30 certification is preferred.
