POSITION SUMMARY

Lofting Group (LG) Supervisor that leads a team in the support of ESG Production regarding the detailed design of various types of vessels, marine crafts, and floating structures such as ships, barges, and tugs. Responsible for the review and corrections of the detailed design and 3D model of marine craft systems (a pipe, machinery, auxiliaries, electrical, etc.), performing drawing review, red line adjudication, Engineering change request and stop notice response, and general working with other Engineering and Production Supervisors to resolve production problems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING: Because Eastern

Shipbuilding is continually growing to meet the needs of our customers; the essential duties and responsibilities may be different than described.

  • Regular attendance at work and the ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
  • Responsible for oversight of the LG personnel and daily operations.
  • Coordinates and interacts with the design disciplines, clients, vendors, and craft superintendents when necessary.
  • Supervise and lead a group of designers in LG, assigning tasks per schedule, and production needs, and maintaining close tracks of hours used per assigned budget.
  • Apply standard design principles and theories to resolve production problems and stop work issues.
  • Where necessary and with the concurrence of discipline supervisors, modify production/fabrication drawings of all systems.
  • Ensure compliance with required design safety factors, tolerances, and specifications.
  • Compile data and perform dimensional and routine calculations required for the review of drawings.
  • Make required changes, additions, and/or revisions, as directed by the immediate supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Approved weekly timecards for all designers and drafters.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directly and/or indirectly supervise employees assigned to LG. Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work. Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be required.
  • Ensures Accountability – Holding self and others accountable to meet commitments.
  • Collaborates – Building partnerships and working collaboratively with others to meet all objectives
  • Optimizes Work Processes – Constantly assuring quality and process improvement.
  • Ensure that all supervised employees follow ESG Safety policies.
  • Ensures that self and supervised group follows ESG applicable policies.

REQUIREMENTS

Education/Experience: Associate degree in an Engineering related Lofting and 5 years of naval architecture and shipyard supervisory experience and related experience including strong and proven knowledge in the use of FORAN or other 3D Design Software, AutoCAD, MSC Nastran, and Rhino.

Skills: Intermediate level Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook experience required. Ability to read and interpret documents such as technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, employees, and the public. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal, or diagram form.

Proficiency in FORAN or similar software such as AVEVA, NUPAS CADMATIC, Ship Constructor, or similar CAD/CAM software is required. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, display attention to detail, and function as a team player.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

This job is operated in an office environment co-located with production working together on daily technical and production issues on the ship. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax machines, and smartphones. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee may be exposed to the risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the environment is low to moderate, such as in an office environment except when working onboard.
