Description

The purpose of this position is to perform manual maintenance work on behalf of Solid Waste and Recycling Division at the landfill and other facilities.  This is accomplished by operating heavy equipment; providing assistance in the citizen's convenience area, maintaining the exterior and interior of facilities, mowing, weed-eating, and picking up litter.  Other duties include but are not limited to removing debris caused from extreme weather conditions; and interacting with other City employees and citizens.

This is a part-time position with the Keep Grand Prairie Beautiful crew working up to 10-19 hours per week.  

• Operating heavy equipment; shoveling and raking waste material, compost, mulch and dirt; cleaning and maintaining tools and equipment; controlling traffic; and cleaning work site.
• Operates heavy equipment by performing maintenance activities; using equipment such as a loader, trucks, riding mower, tractor, and mobile sweeper.
• Provides grounds maintenance by operating riding mower and tractor; maintaining common areas, large fields, and acreage; removing debris out of the mower's path; trimming trees; using a weed eater around trees; and cleaning along the edge of the fence with a mobile weed eater; cleaning sidewalks and walkways; checking trash cans and emptying them as needed; ensuring that facilities are neat and presentable.
• Removes debris caused from extreme weather conditions by clearing debris such as fallen trees; cleaning inlets, curbs, and gutters of debris.

• A High School diploma or GED preferred.

•  Experience in manual and unskilled maintenance work in a landfill environment preferred.
• Valid Driver's License.
