Position Overview
IYRS’s Marine Leadership Institute is establishing a Women’s Maritime Leadership Academy (WMLA) with a mission to “build women’s leadership presence in the maritime trades and blue economy.” IYRS is looking for a Program Director to design, develop, and deliver an innovative IYRS Marine Leadership Institute branded program which achieves this goal. IYRS has established the basic program structure and format, and we are looking for this role to take it to the next level.
Requirements
Major Responsibilities
Program Development
- Be the “face” of IYRS’s women’s leadership initiative – promoting its goals and objectives
- Articulate a compelling needs statement, mission, goals, and value proposition
- Conduct research into the maritime and women’s leadership space to outline IYRS’s unique value proposition
- Engage industry partners to understand their organizational requirements and design a program which fits their needs
- Build and document the program approach, curriculum, and IYRS Leadership content and materials
- Establish a WMLA mentorship model to include onboarding and training
- Select and manage relationships with 3rd party leadership content providers
Program Administration and Management
- Work with IYRS staff to support program outreach and marketing content
- Build and manage budget and financials to ensure a viable and self-sustaining initiative
- Collaborate with IYRS Advancement to source and manage grants and donations
- Work with IYRS staff to support the admissions and onboarding process
- Work with IYRS staff to administer alumnae database of students and mentors
WMLA Seminar and Event Planning and Execution
- Design and execute WMLA leadership development seminars
- Work with IYRS Events Management to design and execute WMLA alumnae events for participants and mentors
- Source and secure WMLA program lecturers and speakers
- Work with IYRS Events Management schedule and manage event spaces, food, IT, and logistics
- Work with IYRS Events Management to achieve beneficial financial arrangements for local event service providers
Community Development
- Build and manage relationships with industry partners
- Build an active and involved community of program alumnae
- Establish a cadre of Women’s leadership mentors
Requirements
Essential KSOCs (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics)
- Effective presentation skills
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-based environment
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with students, faculty, staff, and the public
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required
- Ability to leverage AI tools in a professional environment
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor of Arts, Science, or equivalent professional experience
- Experience with budget development and management
- Experience in the maritime trades preferred
- Leadership and leadership development program experience preferred

Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive salary: $65,000 - $75,000 with annual bonus plan
