Job Title:Head Softball Coach
Division:Athletics
Reports To:Director of Athletics
Employment Status:Full-Time
FLSA Status:Exempt
Location:Fort Valley, Georgia (Onsite)
Position Summary
The Head Softball Coach is responsible for managing all aspects of the softball program, including practices, competition, recruitment, student-athlete academic progress, staff supervision, and budget management.
Coaching and Team Management

Plan and conduct daily practices, warm-ups, conditioning activities, and skill-development drills.

Develop game strategies and direct coaching decisions during competition.

Monitor student-athlete safety and collaborate with athletic trainers regarding injury prevention and care.

Promote life skills, teamwork, leadership, sportsmanship, and personal responsibility.
Recruiting and Player Development

Identify, evaluate, and recruit qualified high school and transfer student-athletes.

Monitor student-athlete academic progress and support continued eligibility under applicable University, conference, and NCAA Division II requirements.

Support student-athlete development through skills instruction, performance feedback, and personal mentorship.
Administration and Compliance

Ensure compliance with all applicable Fort Valley State University, athletic conference, and NCAA Division II rules and requirements.

Hire, supervise, develop, and evaluate assistant coaches.

Coordinate team travel, equipment inventory, and field maintenance.

Manage the softball program budget, fundraising activities, and community engagement events.
Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.

Softball coaching experience at the collegiate, high school, club, or comparable competitive level.

Strong knowledge of softball fundamentals, strategy, recruiting, and player development.

Effective leadership, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Commitment to academic achievement, student-athlete welfare, ethical conduct, and compliance.

Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and travel as required.

Valid driver's license and ability to meet University driving requirements.
Preferred Qualification
-
Master's degree from an accredited institution.
Working Conditions
This position requires regular work in office, athletic facility, outdoor, travel, and competition environments. Duties may include extended standing, demonstrating softball techniques, handling equipment, and working in varying weather conditions.
Additional Requirements
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of applicable background checks, credential verification, driving-record review, and other University requirements.
Additional duties may be assigned based on the needs of Fort Valley State University and the Department of Athletics.
