About this role
What we're looking for:
We need someone with 2–4 years of insurance coverage experience who has handled policyholder-side or defense-side coverage matters and is ready to independently manage their own caseload. You should be comfortable advising sophisticated corporate and tech-company clients on complex coverage disputes and have a track record of strong legal writing, coverage analysis, and civil litigation. Bonus points if you have policyholder-side experience or familiarity with cyber, D&O, and E&O policies.
What you'll do:
-
Analyze and interpret insurance policies across commercial lines — GL, D&O, E&O, cyber, property, and more — to advise institutional clients on coverage positions
-
Take ownership of coverage matters from intake through resolution, including drafting coverage opinions, reservation of rights responses, and demand letters
-
Litigate coverage disputes in California state and federal courts, handling depositions, motions, and court filings
-
Work closely with corporate and tech-company clients to develop coverage strategy, tender decisions, and policy procurement considerations
-
Manage direct client relationships with sophisticated institutional policyholders from early on in your tenure
-
Operate independently with minimal supervision in a 10-person boutique environment, targeting approximately 100 billable hours per month
Key requirements:
-
Active California bar admission (non-negotiable)
-
2–4 years of insurance coverage experience (general civil litigation without coverage depth will not qualify)
-
Policyholder-side preferred; defense-side coverage considered if genuinely interested in switching orientation
-
Strong legal writing and coverage analysis skills
-
Civil litigation experience — depositions, motions, court filings
-
Ability to work independently and manage own book of matters
Disqualifiers: Criminal litigation background; Chubb conflicts; zero litigation experience
