A Day in the Life
Medtronic is seeking a highly motivated Sr. Software Engineer to join the Cardiac Ablation Solutions (CAS) Manufacturing Engineering team.This role focuses on the development, modernization, integration, and automation of manufacturing software applications used for medical device production, testing, calibration, and data acquisition. The engineer will work across software, hardware, networking, and automation domains to build reliable, scalable, and maintainable solutions that support manufacturing operations and product quality.
You will play a key role in developing cross-platform applications, integrating manufacturing equipment, enabling real-time communication systems, and driving automation through modern DevOps and CI/CD practices.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:
- Design, develop, and maintain Flutter-based cross-platform applications supporting manufacturing and engineering workflows.
- Develop software solutions using DART programming and modern application development practices.
- Design and troubleshoot communication interfaces based on TCP/IP protocols, sockets, and network services.
- Develop and support applications deployed on Linux-based environments.
- Implement and maintain messaging architectures using MQTT, AMQP, ROS, and Pub/Sub frameworks.
- Integrate software solutions with manufacturing hardware, test systems, and external devices.
- Support real-time data acquisition, device communication, and system monitoring applications.
- Develop and maintain automated testing frameworks and software validation solutions.
- Build and optimize CI/CD pipelines, release automation workflows, and containerized deployments using Docker.
- Collaborate with Quality, Manufacturing, and Regulatory teams to ensure compliance with medical device software processes.
- Participate in troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing software systems.
- Generate and maintain technical documentation, verification evidence, and validation records.
Required Knowledge and Experience:
- Bachelor's or master’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or equivalent.
- 8–14 years of software engineering experience with a strong focus on application development, automation, and system integration.
- Strong experience in Flutter and DART application development.
- Good understanding of TCP/IP networking, communication protocols, and troubleshooting.
- Experience working in Linux environments, including deployment, configuration, and debugging.
- Hands-on experience with MQTT, AMQP, ROS, or similar publish-subscribe architectures.
- Experience in integrating software with hardware systems and external devices.
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, build automation, and Docker containerization.
- Experience developing and maintaining test automation solutions.
- Understanding of Medical Device Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
- Knowledge of IEC 62304, Design Controls, and Risk Management processes is preferred.
- Experience working in medical device software development and regulated industries.
Nice to Have - Exposure to real-time systems, robotics platforms, or data acquisition applications.
- Experience modernizing legacy applications and consolidating multi-platform software solutions.
- Knowledge of manufacturing execution systems (MES) or production automation environments.
- Familiarity with cloud-connected edge devices and industrial communication protocols.
- Experience developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
- Hands-on experience with Docker containerization.
- Experience in integrating software with hardware systems and external devices.
- Knowledge of device communication interfaces and protocols.
