Location and Hours:
Our headquarters is located in North Kingstown, RI. This opportunity is to work full-time (40 hours per week), Monday through Friday with flexibility in hours to be determined during the interview process.

About the Role:

Our expertise includes comprehensive urine toxicology testing, chemistry, hematology, serology, infectious disease, and immunology. Our in-house research and development team keeps Dominion on the leading edge of proprietary assay development. Whatever your professional laboratory interests are, we offer an avenue to pursue them.
The Safety/Industrial Hygiene Officer leads laboratory safety programs while promoting a proactive approach to workplace safety across the entire organization. Key responsibilities include identifying and mitigating workplace hazards and ensuring compliance with all applicable health, safety, environmental and laboratory regulations.
Essential Responsibilities:
Safety Program and Training
· Develop, implement, and maintain laboratory safety policies and procedures.
· Oversee the safety activities of the laboratory in accordance with federal and state guidelines.
· Participate in preparing the laboratory for all safety-related external inspections; ensure any deficiencies or recommendations are properly documented and addressed.
· Under the supervision of the QA Manager ensures that the laboratory holds/maintains all appropriate licenses and meets regulations in relation to safety, chemical hygiene, and hazardous waste.
· Coordinate annual safety audit. Actively participate in the audit process, including preparing audit reports and overseeing audit response processes.
· Create, maintain, and administrate safety trainings.
· Facilitate safety committee meetings; serve as liaison between management and the safety committee, communicating safety concerns and recommendations.
· Assist with safety purchasing to ensure appropriate inventory of supplies and consistency of services.
Hazard Identification and Risk Management
· Serve as chemical hygiene officer.
· Provide hazard identification and risk assessment. Recommend and implement control measures to minimize hazards.
· Maintain the laboratory’s emergency response plan.
Biosafety and Chemical Safety
· Oversee the procurement, use and disposal of chemicals, hazardous materials, and biohazardous waste.
· Ensure availability and maintenance of emergency equipment, including eyewash stations, safety showers, fire extinguishers, and spill kits.
· Assist during emergency situations and incident response activities.
· Maintain current and archived Safety Data Sheets (SDSs).
Incident Investigation
· In conjunction with the laboratory management team, investigate and address safety complaints and concerns.
· Maintain records of safety incidents, inspections and training.
· Monitor implementation of corrective measures and evaluate effectiveness.
Job Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in chemistry, biology, clinical laboratory science, industrial hygiene, or related fields.
· 2-5 years of experience in clinical laboratory, laboratory safety or industrial hygiene.
· Specialist in Laboratory Safety (ASCP) and HAZWOPER certifications preferred.
· Knowledge of OSHA, RI DEM, EPA, DOT and CAP standards.
Physical Requirements:
· Physical stamina, including standing for long periods, walking, bending and reaching to perform tests and managing equipment.
· Ability to perform repetitive manual tasks using hands and fingers for extended periods of time.
· Must be able to handle small tools, instruments and laboratory equipment with precision.
· Must be able to wear PPE, such as lab coats, masks, gloves, and eye protection.
· Ability to handle chemicals safely.
· Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
