Join the Kahu Ora biodiversity team in Te Manahuna/Twizel and play a key role in protecting some of Aotearoa New Zealand's most significant braided river and wetland ecosystems.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to threatened species conservation while working alongside a dedicated and professional team committed to achieving positive biodiversity outcomes. 

As a Biodiversity Ranger, you will help implement work programmes associated with Kahu Ora, supporting research, monitoring and management activities that protect and enhance braided river and wetland flora and fauna.

Working across a unique and diverse landscape, you will collaborate with a wide range of partners to deliver meaningful conservation outcomes.

Key responsibilities include: 

• Threatened species management and monitoring 

• Biodiversity research and field delivery activities 

• Advocacy for braided rivers and wetland ecosystems 

• Building and maintaining relationships with iwi, communities and key stakeholders 

• Supporting conservation initiatives that protect and enhance native species and habitats 

• This role offers the opportunity to work in one of New Zealand's most iconic landscapes, contribute directly to threatened species recovery, and gain valuable experience alongside a highly skilled biodiversity team.

To be successful in this role, you will have: 

• A qualification in conservation, ecology, natural heritage management, or relevant practical experience in threatened species management 

• Strong relationship-building and stakeholder engagement skills 

• Excellent planning, organisation and time management skills 

• Strong written and verbal communication skills 

• A high level of physical fitness and the ability to work safely in remote and rugged environments 

• Full New Zealand Driver's License  

• The ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, iwi, community groups and stakeholders to achieve conservation outcomes 

• This role will suit someone looking to further develop their field-based biodiversity and conservation experience while making a tangible difference for New Zealand's unique native species and ecosystems. 

Desirable: 

• Hands-on experience working with birds

• Current First Aid certification 

• Experience driving and operating 4WD vehicles
