More about the Role
Reporting to the Practice Manager, the Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment throughout the practice. The Custodian ensures all patient care, treatment, boarding, and public areas are cleaned and disinfected according to established protocols by performing routine custodial duties, including emptying trash, cleaning restrooms, dusting, sweeping, mopping, and cleaning windows. The Custodian helps maintain a professional appearance of the facility by restocking supplies, reporting maintenance concerns, and performing other general housekeeping duties as needed to support the health, safety, and comfort of patients, clients, and staff.
The schedule for this position is Monday-Friday 4:00 pm-6:00 pm.

Essential Responsibilities
- Empty trash receptacles throughout the veterinary facility.
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, and fixtures.
- Sweep, mop, and maintain clean floors in exam rooms, treatment areas, offices, hallways, and common areas.
- Dust furniture, shelves, windowsills, equipment, and other surfaces.
- Clean interior and exterior windows, glass doors, and mirrors.
- Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces such as door handles, light switches, counters, and handrails.
- Restock restroom supplies, including soap, paper towels, and toilet paper.
- Maintain cleanliness in waiting rooms, staff break rooms, offices, and other shared spaces.
- Safely use and store cleaning chemicals and equipment according to established procedures.
- Report maintenance issues, damaged equipment, or supply shortages to management.
- Follow all workplace safety and infection control protocols.
- Assist with special cleaning projects and seasonal deep cleaning as assigned.
- Perform other general housekeeping and custodial duties to maintain a clean, safe, and professional veterinary environment.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Previous custodial, janitorial, housekeeping, or commercial cleaning experience preferred; veterinary or healthcare facility experience is a plus.
- Ability to safely use cleaning chemicals, equipment, and supplies according to established procedures.
- Knowledge of proper cleaning, sanitizing, and infection control practices is preferred.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and lift up to 50 pounds throughout the workday.
- Must be comfortable working in a veterinary environment around animals, pet hair, cleaning odors, noise, and exposure to cleaning chemicals and disinfectants.
- Must demonstrate reliability, professionalism, and a commitment to supporting exceptional patient care through maintaining a clean and sanitary facility.
