Your role and responsibilities

In this role, we are looking for an experienced Technical Lead to join our Industrial Automation Digital Organization. You will lead the design, architecture, and development of next-generation industrial software products built on Edge and Cloud technologies. Working closely with global engineering teams across Norway, Sweden, Germany, and India, you will drive scalable SaaS and PaaS solutions while mentoring engineering teams and promoting engineering excellence.

The ideal candidate will possess strong technical leadership, deep expertise in cloud-native application development, software architecture, cybersecurity, and modern software engineering practices. Exposure to Industrial Automation, Digital Platforms, and AI-enabled software development will be a strong advantage.

You will be mainly accountable for:

• Own and lead the software architecture, design, development, and delivery of assigned software modules and products.
• Define and drive technical architecture for industrial software products leveraging Edge Computing, Cloud Computing, and Microservices architecture.
• Design and deliver scalable SaaS and PaaS solutions on cloud platforms with high availability, observability, security, and performance.
• Apply Generative AI, Agentic AI, and Large Language Models (LLMs) to accelerate software development and improve engineering productivity.
• Provide technical leadership and mentor engineering teams by promoting coding standards, architecture best practices, and design excellence.
• Collaborate with platform teams, product management, and global stakeholders to make key architectural decisions aligned with product roadmaps.
• Conduct architecture and design reviews to ensure technical quality, scalability, maintainability, and ecosystem alignment.
• Establish architectural standards, technology guidelines, reusable frameworks, and engineering best practices across teams.
• Own platform qualities including scalability, resilience, security, performance, observability, and operational excellence.
• Create and maintain product Threat Models while ensuring Secure Software Development Lifecycle (SSDLC) practices are followed from project inception.
• Ensure compliance with ABB Product Security Assessment (PSA) requirements and relevant cybersecurity standards.
• Drive platform optimization to enable faster application development, innovation, and experimentation for application teams.
• Track and prioritize technical debt reduction initiatives while maintaining comprehensive architecture documentation and technical governance.

Qualifications for the role

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related engineering discipline.
• 10–15 years of professional software development experience with proven experience leading architecture and technical delivery of enterprise software products.
• Strong experience with containerization and orchestration technologies including Docker, Kubernetes, and exposure to OpenShift/MicroShift.
• Extensive experience designing and developing cloud-native SaaS applications on Microsoft Azure.
• Strong hands-on expertise in C# .NET Core, Microservices architecture, REST APIs, and event-driven application design.
• Experience with frontend technologies such as React and TypeScript is highly desirable.
• Strong knowledge of event streaming and messaging platforms including Kafka, MassTransit, or similar technologies.
• Experience working with both Time Series Databases and Relational Databases.
• Good understanding of Agile software development methodologies, Scrum, Azure DevOps, GitHub, and modern DevOps practices.
• Exposure to Industrial Automation platforms, Industrial Communication Protocols, Edge Computing, and Digital Industrial Architectures.
• Good understanding of cybersecurity principles including authentication, authorization, cryptography, secure communication, and secure software architecture.
• Familiarity with cybersecurity and compliance frameworks such as OWASP, ISO 27001, NIST, IEC, GDPR, and ABB Product Security Assessment (PSA).
• Experience designing secure, scalable, highly available, and observable distributed software platforms.
• Hands-on experience using Generative AI, Agentic AI, and Large Language Models (LLMs) in software engineering workflows will be an added advantage.
• Proven experience designing architecture for 3–5 enterprise software products.
• Strong analytical, communication, stakeholder management, and technical mentoring skills.
• Exposure to Industrial Automation, Energy, Process Industries, or Digital Manufacturing domains will be an added advantage.
