Description
What You Can Expect:
- Prepare and process customs entries in accordance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations and internal compliance procedures.
- Review commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, arrival notices, and other import documentation for completeness and accuracy.
- Verify importer of record (IOR), country of origin, valuation, terms of sale, tariff classification, and other entry data prior to submission.
- Research and apply Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classifications and identify applicable duties, taxes, fees, and trade requirements.
- Independently handle more complex customs entries and use sound judgment to identify and resolve classification, valuation, documentation, or admissibility issues.
- Coordinate with customers, carriers, freight forwarding teams, customs brokers, overseas offices, and internal operations to obtain missing information and resolve discrepancies.
- Monitor entry status and shipment releases, identify problem files, and take timely corrective action to prevent delays, storage, or other avoidable costs.
- Support compliance with applicable Partner Government Agency (PGA) requirements and other import regulations, where applicable.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and audit-ready entry records and supporting documentation.
- Escalate unresolved compliance concerns, documentation discrepancies, or operational risks to management as appropriate.
- Provide professional and timely updates to customers and internal stakeholders regarding entry status and customs-related issues.
- Work closely with Brokerage and Operations teams to maintain a high level of customer service and operational accuracy.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
What You Bring:
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in U.S. customs brokerage, customs entry writing, or a closely related import compliance role.
- Practical experience preparing and processing U.S. customs entries; candidates must have direct entry-writing experience.
- Strong working knowledge of CBP regulations, customs entry documentation, country of origin, importer of record (IOR), valuation, tariff classification, and import compliance requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to process entries independently and resolve more complex customs or documentation issues with limited supervision.
- Experience reviewing commercial invoices, bills of lading, packing lists, and other international trade documentation.
- Ability to identify documentation discrepancies, troubleshoot entry issues, and communicate effectively with customers and internal teams.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to manage multiple files and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with customs brokerage/entry software is required or strongly preferred.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Bilingual English and Spanish or another language is considered an asset.
