JOB SUMMARY:
The Mechanical Project Manager oversees the planning, execution, and financial performance of mechanical construction projects across a variety of client sectors. This position develops and implements project-specific safety and quality control plans, establishes staffing and work plans, manages project schedules and budgets, and coordinates subcontractors, materials, equipment, and logistics. The Mechanical Project Manager monitors costs, forecasts project performance, prepares financial reports, collaborates with the estimating team on proposals and budgets, and may prepare estimates for smaller projects. The role is responsible for delivering projects safely, on time, within budget, and in accordance with contract requirements and applicable mechanical codes and standards.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of mechanical construction projects, working closely with the Estimator, Superintendent, Health, Safety, and Environmental personnel, Project Engineers, and Foremen to plan, organize, and direct activities that ensure the successful completion of the project.
- Establish project objectives, policies, procedures, work plans, and performance standards within the boundaries of corporate policy and contract specifications.Develop and oversee the implementation of a project-specific safety plan. Review Job Loss Analyses (JLAs) and other safety documentation for applicability and compliance.
- Ensure the project quality control plan is implemented and verify that mechanical installations, testing, inspections, and documentation comply with contract documents, approved submittals, manufacturer requirements, and applicable plumbing, mechanical, fuel gas, and energy codes.
- Monitor and control projects utilizing onsite management staff to ensure the project is completed safely, on schedule and within budget.Develop, review, and maintain project budgets, cost forecasts, and financial projections, identifying potential cost overruns and implementing corrective measures as needed.
- Maintain the project schedule and ensure timely completion of project milestones and deliverables, communicating this information regularly to company management, the owner, and subcontractors.
- Collaborate with accounting and project controls personnel to maintain accurate financial records and job cost information for the contract, safeguarding company interests and fostering positive relationships with customers and subcontractors.
- Update and review with company management projected contract revenue, cost-to-complete, and cash flow projections monthly.
- Review project estimates and budgets along with plans, specifications, and scopes of work, and develop resource lists and schedules necessary to accomplish work.
- Manage project documentation, including RFIs, submittals, change orders, pay applications, claims, correspondence, and closeout documentation, as applicable.
- Review contracts, scopes of work, specifications, subcontractor agreements, and vendor requirements to identify project obligations, risks, and potential cost or schedule impacts.
- Procure and manage the requisition, submittal approval, fabrication, delivery, and storage of mechanical equipment and materials, including piping, valves, fixtures, pumps, boilers, heating equipment, ventilation equipment, controls, and related components needed for timely and efficient project completion.
- Coordinate with owners, engineers, subcontractors, vendors, field leadership, and internal departments to resolve project issues and maintain project progress.
- Identify and manage project risks related to scope, schedule, cost, procurement, staffing, logistics, constructability, and other project requirements.
- Obtain necessary permits and land-use agreements and other approvals as required by the project.
- Provide Equipment Manager with project equipment lists, utilization forecasts, mobilization schedules, maintenance, and repair needs.
- Ensure compliance with applicable contract conditions, permits, and reporting requirements.
- Interpret and explain plans and contract terms to administrative and field staff, including job cost coding and quantity tracking.
- Act as the company's representative in project meetings, ensuring effective communication and alignment with project goals.
- Revise and update pricing for change orders and impact adjustments as needed throughout the project.
- Assist with managing the estimating job folders and bid preparation as needed.
- Coordinate project turnover and closeout activities, including punch-list completion, as-built documentation, operations and maintenance manuals, warranties, final documentation, and acceptance requirements.
- Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY FUNCTIONS:
This position supervises some project staff as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
- Strong knowledge of construction project management principles, methodologies, and best practices, including project planning, scheduling, budgeting, resource allocation, and performance monitoring.
- In-depth knowledge of field construction concepts, practices, and procedures, with a focus on plumbing, heating, HVAC, piping, and other mechanical systems.
- Strong working knowledge of plumbing, heating, HVAC, piping, and other mechanical construction systems, methods, materials, and applicable codes.
- Familiarity with construction, architectural, and building industry standard operating procedures.
- Knowledge of construction project scheduling, subcontractor management, submittals, RFIs, change management, procurement, and quality control procedures.
- Knowledge of fiscal management principles, including budgeting, cost estimation, and cost-to-completion projections, as well as understanding fixed-rate and reimbursable contracts.
- Ability to create, interpret, and understand complex construction documents, plans, contracts, scopes of work, and specifications.
- Skilled in preparing accurate budgets, cost estimates and managing project finances.
- Proficient in using standard business applications such as Microsoft Office Suite, with the ability to learn and effectively utilize construction management, scheduling, estimating, and accounting software.
- Strong ability to organize resources, establish priorities, meet deadlines, and effectively manage time.
- Ability to monitor project costs, prepare accurate financial forecasts, analyze budget variances, and communicate financial performance to company management.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to assess data, forecast project needs, identify risks, and make informed decisions.
- Capable of identifying complex issues, performing basic mathematical computations, and exercising resourcefulness to resolve problems.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to actively listen, negotiate, and provide high-quality customer service to internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met and objectives are accomplished.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, customers, vendors, and other departments.

- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as necessary to meet project demands.
- Ability to travel to remote locations for work-related purposes, for extended periods of time (more than 25% of the time, as needed).
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle safely and efficiently when required for project needs.
- Understanding of the challenges and requirements of working on remote location construction projects.
- Capacity to thrive in a multi-project construction environment, adapting to varied client needs, project types, and job-site conditions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and directly related experience required.
- Five (5) years of experience in construction project management, project engineering, field management, or a related field required.
- Experience with Autodesk Civil 3D, HCSS HeavyBid, HCSS HeavyJob, and Spectrum accounting software preferred.
- Experience in construction projects in remote locations is highly preferred.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or similar project management certification preferred.
- Valid state driver’s license and qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of the Company’s Driving Policy.
- Ability to pass a drug, driving, and background screening.
