Reporting to the Program Manager the Air Department Specialist will provide subject matter expertise on aircraft carrier Air Department and Aircraft Launch and Recovery Equipment (ALRE) readiness to the CVN ROC, supporting CNAL Code N47 with technical analysis, casualty repair guidance, and readiness recommendations.

 

This is a contingent position expected to be located in Norfolk, VA. The pay range for the position will be provided at the time the position is no longer contingent.

What You'll Do

• Analyze the impact of equipment casualty conditions, alterations, and maintenance on AWPs and provide recommendations; inform ROC Readiness SMEs of issues affecting CVN certification for deployment.
• Provide technical and logistical guidance on CASREPs within CVN Class ALRE systems, including troubleshooting complex problems and developing solutions.
• Collaborate with Maintenance Officers aboard aircraft carriers on planning and executing work packages, and create/maintain complex maintenance schedules and budgets.
• Support execution of Carrier Readiness Calls and associated brief development; create guidance and requirements for Carrier Readiness by coordinating with COMNAVAIRLANT and COMNAVAIRPAC.
• Support equipment/asset audits in preparation for Flight Deck Certification, and liaise with commands at all authority levels on ALRE maintenance procedures.
• Support short- and long-range planning with insights and recommendations to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and affordability of systems maintenance and modernization.
• Bid and proposal support if requested.
• Other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

• An active secret clearance is required to be considered for this position.
• HS Diploma required.
• Ten (10) years' experience as a force liaison with military/DoD personnel on aircraft handling, crash and salvage, catapult, arresting gear, and fueling training requirements.
• Ten (10) years' experience in responsible roles for air systems equipment material condition (catapults, arresting gear, ILARTS, JBD, NGL, LSO/HUD workstation, WMIS, MORIAH, IFLOLS, MOVLAS, LRLS, FDL systems, as applicable).
• Ten (10) years' experience in shipboard aviation support systems including ALRE Management Program (ALREMP) and aviation fuel systems, including configuration/inspection status.
• Ten (10) years' experience briefing senior naval officers and civilians on shipboard systems/equipment status and recommending repair courses of action.
• Fluent in Naval Aircraft Carrier references and standards per Naval Instructions.
• Must possess basic computer literacy and data entry skills.
• Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (to include MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
• Must possess strong time management skills.
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced, changing, and challenging environment.
• Travel Required ~25% travel required.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.

Desired Qualifications:

• Prior U.S. Navy active-duty air-enlisted rating or air-designated Officer experience.
• Prior DLCPO/WCS experience aboard a CVN.
• Five (5) years assisting the ALRE Maintenance Officer aboard aircraft carriers in planning and executing work packages.
• Experience assisting/monitoring ships' deck density computation, aircraft mishap data, and FOD prevention programs.
• Experience serving as a representative during sea trials, flight deck certification, and major flight-operations training evolutions.
• Knowledgeable in the latest advancements in ALRE systems technology.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to remain seated in a stationary position 50% of the time. Must also be able to alternate between sitting, standing, and walking.
• The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing, or recurring and considerable walking, stooping, bending, crouching, and climbing such as performing regular shop activities, inspections, or to observe and study operations in an industrial or comparable work area, or on-board ships, submarines, and/or in weapon facilities.
