Role Context
The Packaging Technology Centre (PTC) is the central technical validation laboratory responsible for evaluating and approving packaging materials across all packaging formats used by the organization. The laboratory supports business continuity, innovation, renovation, quality improvement, supplier development, and cost optimization initiatives.
The PTC performs approximately 30–40 packaging validation projects every month, covering new developments, supplier qualifications, material changes, troubleshooting, benchmarking, value engineering, and regulatory compliance.
This role requires strong technical expertise, analytical capability, and hands-on laboratory experience. The complexity of packaging materials, validation methodologies, and specialized equipment requires significant learning and practical exposure. Typically, it takes approximately one year for an individual to become fully proficient in PTC operations and independently manage validations.
The role is critical to ensuring that all packaging materials meet functional, quality, regulatory, safety, and performance requirements before commercialization.
The Packaging Technology Centre is one of Diageo India's strategic innovation and validation hubs. The team works on cutting-edge packaging technologies across glass, PET, closures, cartons, labels, and sustainable packaging solutions. The role provides exposure to innovation, renovation, premium packaging development, cost optimization, supplier qualification, advanced laboratory technologies, and cross-functional collaboration across R&D, Supply, Procurement, Manufacturing, Quality, and Global Packaging teams.
Purpose of the Role
To independently manage and execute packaging material validation activities within the Packaging Technology Centre by ensuring technically sound validation methodologies, accurate testing, reliable laboratory operations, equipment readiness, compliance with standards, and high-quality technical reporting.
The role is responsible for delivering timely, accurate, and data-driven validation outcomes that support innovation, renovation, cost optimization, supplier qualification, quality improvement, and manufacturing excellence.
Decision-Making Authority
The role has authority to:
• Plan and execute validation activities based on approved priorities.
• Select appropriate test methods and validation approaches in accordance with approved standards.
• Interpret validation data and provide technical recommendations.
• Identify validation failures, technical risks, and improvement opportunities.
• Recommend acceptance, rejection, or additional evaluation based on validation outcomes.
• Escalate technical concerns and validation risks requiring management decisions.
Final commercialization or specification approval remains with the relevant functional governance teams.
Financial Accountability
The role contributes to business performance by:
• Supporting innovation and renovation projects.
• Supporting packaging cost optimization initiatives.
• Improving laboratory efficiency and equipment utilization.
• Supporting CAPEX implementation and laboratory capability enhancement.
• Protecting business through robust packaging validation and risk mitigation.
The position does not have direct budget ownership but is responsible for effective utilization of laboratory assets and technical resources.
