Department:
Nutritional ServicesUnder the supervision of the Clinical Nutrition Manager, the Dietetic Technician performs specialized paraprofessional clinical duties within the hospital nutrition program. Essential functions of the role include assisting the dietitian team with clinical nutrition care for patients and their families; conducting patient screenings and collecting basic nutrition-related data to identify preliminary nutritional risk levels and support appropriate triage of nutrition information; assisting dietitians with nutrition education and counseling; collecting pertinent clinical data from patient medical records; implementing patient food and nutrition preferences; retrieving and assessing nutritional information from hospital computer systems; documenting and calculating nutrient intake for calorie counts; and performing CBORD administrative tasks as the CBORD administrator for the department.
- Assists dietitian on chart reviews; collects basic nutritionally relevant patient data to perform nutritional screening and preliminary nutritional risk evaluation.
- With assistance of dietitian, determines whether the patient may require a nutritional assessment which is performed by a Registered Dietitian.
- Interviews patients to obtain food preferences, diet history, and related information.
- Assists dietitian in providing nutritional education for patient and their families involving principles of special therapeutic diets.
- Collects pertinent clinical data from patient medical records in order to accurately identify current nutrition problems; charts pertinent nutritional information into patient medical record.
- Assists dietitian in performing nutritional analysis of intake for calorie counts.
- Generates nutrition-related reports and performs other duties utilizing computerized systems.
- Assists with CBORD administrative tasks such as updating food items, nutritional values, & compliance to therapeutic diets.
- Performs test trays to monitor food quality, recipe compliance, and tray accuracy.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education: Associate degree required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Licensure/Certification: Must currently be a Registered Dietetic Technician, in good standing and credentialed by the Commission on Dietetic Registration. ServSafe certification through an accredited American National Standards Institute program required. New hires/transfers have 30 days to obtain.
Experience: One year of clinical Registered Dietetic Technician experience preferred. Spanish-speaking ability preferred.
The hourly rate for this position is $36.59 - $45.74. The range displayed on this job posting reflects the target for new hire salaries for this position.
