Description of Work

A successful candidate for this CAP HVAC Supervisor (HVAC Supervisor) position, shall possess one or more journeyman level construction trade skills in the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical systems, equipment (air handlers, chillers, boilers, etc,), and other refrigeration machinery; be able to work independently to complete work assignments received by a supervisor; read and interpret blueprints; and perform other assigned duties. Strong experience in construction methodologies; strong decision-making capabilities; excellent team collaboration skills; and high-level communication skills.  This position provides mechanical trade expertise and offender labor force training, mentoring, and supervision. This position is responsible for ensuring all construction, renovation, and major maintenance mechanical trade installations performed by CAP, are constructed within the work scope, budget, and schedule, and in accordance with the project drawings, specifications, and NC Building Codes, while working under the supervision of a CAP Mechanical Superintendent.

Key Duties Includes:

•Demonstrated experience in the installation, construction, and/or repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and/or refrigeration equipment, including but not limited to chillers, air handlers, pumps, ventilators, fans, boilers, piping, mini splits, ice makers, kitchen equipment, etc.
•Demonstrated experience with the tools, methods, practices, materials, and equipment used within the engineering construction trades relating to the construction of buildings.
•Demonstrated experience with the installation and operation of pneumatic building automation and control systems.
•Demonstrated experience with reading, understanding, and executing Critical Path Method (CPM) construction schedules.
•Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA standards, North Carolina Building Codes, and/or laws or ordinances governing institutional / industrial / commercial construction.
•Basic knowledge of electricity sufficient to troubleshoot and repair complex electrical control circuits.
•Experience with reading schematics and blueprints.
•EPA Section 608 Certification Type II or Universal (required to handle refrigerants)

Work Location and Schedule

This position will have a duty station normally at the successful candidates NC home and be assigned a State-owned vehicle for business use only. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.  The work schedule is Monday – Thursday 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM but occasionally could require work hours on Fridays and weekends.  Overnight travel is normally required to meet the demands of the organization.

· Working knowledge of refrigeration theory.

· Considerable knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment.

· Ability to train and supervise other workers.

· Ability to review and critique plans and specifications for air-conditioning systems.

· EPA Section 608 Certification Type II or Universal (required to handle refrigerants)

The Support Services Division oversees the operations and infrastructure that sustain facilities within the Department of Adult Correction. Responsibilities include facility maintenance, fleet and warehouse management, food services, construction and renovation projects, and energy efficiency. This division plays a vital role in supporting daily operations and long-term planning. 

Division of Engineering, Construction, and Maintenance (DECM) operates as the NCDAC Capital Project Coordinator (CPC) and is tasked with coordinating all capital improvement and renovation and repair projects with the State Construction Office (SCO) and serves as the DAC representative on all matters involving the State Property Office and State Building Commission. Our unified purpose is to provide architectural and engineering support, sustainability, efficiency, and resiliency planning, construction, and maintenance services to ensure all statewide Institutions and Facilities remain in compliance with building codes, regulations, and legislative mandates, while also promoting the agency’s rehabilitation and reentry goals through offender job training within the construction and maintenance trades, while assisting institutions directly and indirectly with the installation and maintenance of kitchen, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and electronics equipment.

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and up to three years of journey level experience in the installation, maintenance or repair of air conditioning chillers, air handling, chilled water distribution and control systems including one year at the journey level; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Requires current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations part 82, subpart F.
