Director, Mobile Application Engineering

The Director, Mobile Application Engineering is responsible for supporting and executing Fortrea's mobile engineering strategy in alignment with established enterprise standards while transforming how mobile products are designed, developed, tested, secured, and delivered.

This leader will build and lead high-performing global engineering teams responsible for delivering secure, scalable, high-performing mobile applications that enhance customer, employee, and patient experiences. The role combines technical leadership, organizational development, product engineering, and innovation to accelerate Fortrea's digital transformation.

The Director will drive adoption of AI-assisted software engineering, cloud-native architectures, DevSecOps, automation, platform engineering, and modern mobile development practices to improve engineering productivity, software quality, and speed of delivery.

Working closely with Product Management, Architecture, Security, Infrastructure, Data & AI, and Business stakeholders, this leader will translate strategic business objectives into technical execution while fostering a culture of engineering excellence, continuous improvement, innovation, and accountability.

Summary of Responsibilities:

• Support and execute the mobile engineering strategy aligned with established Fortrea product and business objectives.
• Build, lead, mentor, and develop high-performing engineering managers, architects, technical leads, and software engineers while creating strong succession plans and career development opportunities.
• Lead the design, architecture, development, testing, deployment, and lifecycle management of enterprise mobile applications across iOS, Android, and modern cross-platform technologies.
• Manage mobile architecture standards, reusable platforms, shared SDKs, engineering frameworks, and governance based on already established enterprise standards that enable rapid product delivery across multiple applications.
• Drive adoption of AI-assisted software engineering tools and intelligent development practices to improve developer productivity, software quality, automated testing, documentation, code generation, and release velocity.
• Partner with Product Management to build customer-centric digital products that continuously evolve through customer feedback, analytics, experimentation, and data-driven decision making.
• Evaluate and implement Generative AI capabilities within mobile applications to improve customer, employee, and patient experiences.
• Champion engineering excellence through Agile, DevSecOps, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, automated quality engineering, and modern software delivery practices.
• Improve developer experience through automation, self-service engineering platforms, modern development environments, developer tooling, and engineering productivity initiatives.
• Ensure solutions are secure, scalable, resilient, performant, observable, maintainable, and aligned with enterprise architecture and cybersecurity standards.
• Partner with Security, Privacy, Compliance, and Risk organizations to ensure mobile applications meet regulatory, HIPAA, privacy, security, and secure software development lifecycle requirements.
• Collaborate with executive leadership to define technology strategy, investment priorities, engineering roadmaps, and long-term platform evolution.
• Drive operational excellence through observability, telemetry, monitoring, crash analytics, feature flags, experimentation, and performance optimization.
• Manage engineering metrics including DORA metrics, application health, engineering productivity, operational reliability, software quality, customer adoption, and business outcomes.
• Lead technical risk management, production support, incident response, disaster recovery, and continuous service improvement activities.
• Evaluate emerging mobile technologies, AI platforms, engineering tools, frameworks, and industry trends that improve innovation and accelerate software delivery.
• Manage engineering budgets, vendor relationships, resource planning, strategic investments, and technology partnerships.
• Foster a high-performance engineering culture centered on ownership, collaboration, innovation, technical excellence, continuous learning, diversity, inclusion, accountability, and customer focus.

Qualifications (Minimum Required):

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related discipline. Equivalent experience will be considered.
• Strong understanding of modern software engineering principles, architecture patterns, cloud-native application development, and enterprise mobile engineering.
• Expertise in native mobile development, cross-platform frameworks, API-first architecture, distributed systems, and cloud-connected mobile solutions.
• Strong knowledge of secure software development lifecycle, mobile application security, privacy, authentication, identity management, and modern cybersecurity practices.
• Demonstrated experience implementing engineering governance, architecture standards, and engineering excellence initiatives.
• Strong executive communication, organizational leadership, stakeholder management, and strategic planning skills.
• Proven ability to influence technical and business decisions across executive leadership and cross-functional organizations.
• Demonstrated success leading large-scale enterprise technology transformations within globally distributed engineering organizations.

Experience (Minimum Required): 

• 10+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including significant experience delivering enterprise mobile applications and digital products.
• 5+ years leading engineering managers, architects, or globally distributed software engineering organizations.
• Demonstrated experience supporting and executing mobile engineering strategies based on already established enterprise standards.
• Proven success leading development and delivery of enterprise-scale iOS, Android, React Native, Flutter, Kotlin Multiplatform, or equivalent mobile platforms.
• Experience building reusable engineering platforms, shared services, developer tooling, and engineering frameworks.
• Experience implementing AI-assisted software development practices and evaluating emerging AI technologies that improve engineering productivity.
• Experience implementing DevSecOps, CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, automated testing, quality engineering, and modern software delivery practices.
• Experience improving engineering organizations using data-driven metrics including DORA Metrics, operational KPIs, engineering productivity, and software quality indicators.
• Experience managing multiple engineering roadmaps, budgets, strategic investments, vendors, and resource planning.
• Demonstrated success partnering with Product Management, Architecture, Data & AI, Security, Infrastructure, and executive leadership to deliver enterprise technology solutions.
