Overview of Position:

Assists in providing a broad range of services characteristic of a comprehensive health and wellness program. Services include but are not limited to utilization of a functional capacity assessment, exercise training, dietary screening, risk factor management, health education and psychosocial support. Acts as a premier resource in providing exercise recommendation and activities for organizations, employees and community.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
1.    Serves as a resource person for employees and community regarding health and wellness.
2.    Develops and implements creative activities and programming for hospital employees and community members for improved health and well-being.
3.    Counsel clients on nutrition issues and healthy eating habits
4.    Conducts comprehensive client needs assessment.
5.    Evaluates initial exercise tolerance and readiness for progression to more intense activity.
6.    Assists employees and community members in setting and achieving goals based upon health assessment, national standards of practice, behavior change theories and risk of future complications.
7.    Shows patient participation in lifestyle changes by summarizing patient outcomes in a clear, concise, meaningful manner.
8.    Demonstrates knowledge of the clinical application of physical activity in the treatment of a wide variety of disease states.
9.    Demonstrates understanding of basic pathophysiology of disease states, risk factors and indications for primary and secondary prevention programming.  Uses understanding to customize programs based on the patient needs.

QUALIFICATIONS
1.    Bachelor’s Degree in an allied health field or the equivalent required.
2.    Possess or obtain one of the following certifications within two years of hire:
a.    Nutritionist Certification
b.    BLS Instructor Certification
c.    Other job-related Certification as approved by department leadership. 
3.    Attention to detail.
4.    Ability to provide patient care in a warm and friendly manner.

• Maintains a positive work environment for staff and a healing environment for patients (i.e. safe, clean, quiet, etc.)
• Maintains the dignity and privacy of each person; manages confidential/sensitive information appropriately.
• Responds to requests in an appropriate and timely manner.
• Exits patient/customer encounters courteously, asking if there are additional needs that can be addressed.
3.    Promotes Patient and Employee Safety 
• Demonstrates safe Patient Handling (i.e. transfers, transport, care administration, nutrition, medication, etc.) 
• Demonstrates safe Materials Handling (i.e. appropriate use and disposal of chemicals, infectious wastes, etc.)
• Demonstrates appropriate knowledge of Infectious Disease precautions and use of proper protective equipment
• Demonstrates Slips/Trips and Falls Awareness.
• Actively contributes to maintaining a safe, clean and quiet environment.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

1.    Required to stand, walk, talk, hear, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with the hands and arms, and taste or smell.
2.    Occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.  
3.    Regularly lift or move up to 10 pounds; frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds; and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.  
4.    Special vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.   
5.    Ability to read, write and explain or describe moderately complex information to other hospital staff.
6.    Ability to accurately take and record measurements or readings.
