Position Overview

The Senior Manager, Individual Giving will work with the Development Team to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors and family foundations. On a daily basis, the Senior Manager, Individual Giving will focus on engaging a portfolio of individual donors, providing staff leadership to the Associate Board, managing the mid-level giving program and identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding prospects and donors. Their specific focus will be on building an individual donor base to raise increased resources, and ultimately, serve more students in Philadelphia. The Senior Manager, Individual Giving will report to the Individual Giving Director. The anticipated start date range for this position is October/November 2026.

Job Description

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3+ years of relevant experience in relationship cultivation, partner engagement, and/or fundraising, with proven ability to deliver strong, measurable results  

  • Bachelor’s Degree or 2 additional years of experience  

  • Authorized documentation to work in the United States of America 

  • Criminal background history clearance check, in alignment with City Year Inc. employment requirements

Preferred Qualifications

  • Outstanding ability to communicate with diverse audiences verbally, in writing, and via presentation

  • Strong ability/initiative to work independently and collaborate with folks with diverse needs, expectations, and perspectives, including those not in direct line of authority 

  • Efficient time management skills; ability to meet deadlines and prioritize multiple projects

  • City Year/AmeriCorps experience is a plus

Responsibilities

The  Senior Manager, Individual Giving, will perform the following roles and responsibilities as described below:  

Donor Management

  • Raise $190,000+ through the Individual Giving portfolio in support of FY27 private revenue goal of $3,000,000. 

  • Manage a portfolio of individual and family foundation donors through cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship, with hopes to have these donors increase their giving and engagement. 

  • Promote membership in the mid-level and Red Jacket Society programs, encouraging donors to invest $1,000+ in City Year.

Associate Board Leadership

  • Lead efforts of the Associate Board and provide leadership around all meetings, campaigns, events, and activities, including raising $40,000+ annually.  

  • Lead bi-weekly meetings with Associate Board leadership to ensure Associate Board stays on track toward goals. 

  • Collaborate with the Events Director to execute young professional events and initiatives, typically 2 per fiscal year. 

  • Manage the three Associate Board committees, including two young professional events and the Young Friends of CYP, a giving program of young professionals who advance the mission of City Year through annual donations.

Donor Cultivation & Stewardship Activities

  • Execute annual stewardship and engagement plans for individual donor segments that ensure consistent and tailored communication, convey impact, and advance toward renewals and upgrades.  

  • Create and develop effective communication and engagement materials/tools based on City Year’s mission and vision, in coordination with the Communications & Marketing team.  

  • Leverage City Year events, such as the annual dinner, specialty-market events, champions’ receptions, service days, and other select gatherings, to raise awareness and to secure financial resources for our work.  

  • Recommend new engagement opportunities and implement stewardship best practices including thank you cards, gifting, and additional recognition components.  

Prospect Generation

  • Analyze CYP’s current individual giving portfolio and identify opportunities for upsells as well as new donor entry points.  

  • Build out full individual giving strategy in collaboration with the Individual Giving Director and Managing Director, Development. 

  • Build strategies to connect with and expand our relationship with event attendees and volunteers.

Physical requirements

  • Ability to sit for extended periods and occasionally stand or walk

  • Manual dexterity for typing, writing, and handling office equipment

  • Visual acuity to read screens and printed materials

  • Hearing ability to participate in conversations and respond to phone calls

  • Occasional lifting or carrying of items up to 10–20 lbs (e.g., office and event supplies)

  • Ability to communicate clearly in person, by phone, and in writing

Working Conditions

  • Operates in a professional open office setting using standard office equipment.

  • May require occasional travel to client meetings and event spaces.

  • Typical schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., with occasional extended hours as needed.

  • Hybrid work environment, with minimum of two days per week required in-person at the City Year Philadelphia office and at client meetings in the Greater Philadelphia area.

  • Noise level is generally moderate.

  • Must have reliable internet access for remote work days.

Compensation
Compensation for this position is in the $57,000 to $62,000 range.

Please describe a fundraising portfolio that you have personally managed. Include the size and composition of the portfolio, your approach to donor cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and prospecting, and the fundraising results you achieved. This role leads an Associate Board and engages volunteers, donors, and community stakeholders to advance fundraising goals.
