Description:

The CUNY SPS Office of Innovative Learning Solutions (ILS) seeks an experienced detail-oriented subject matter expert professional to join our training team in the role of Energy Training Instructor. This role will be an integral part of the Energy Training team that manages the design, development, delivery and administration of relevant learning programs on behalf of the Department of Citywide Administrative Services’ (DCAS) Division of Energy Management. This program prepares City facilities personnel to make energy-smart decisions that assist the City of New York in meeting its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction goals. The program is designed to help facility professionals across City agencies envision a learning path specifically targeted to their professional and personnel development goals.

The Energy Training Instructor has an integral role in leveraging their work experience and subject matter expertise in an engineering specialty (e.g., mechanical, electrical, civil, environmental, etc.), energy management, or sustainability, to provide instruction to adult learners responsible for implementing cost saving energy measures that improve building operations and efficiency.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Sr. Program Manager, Training Operations, the Energy Training Instructor will:

  • Deliver educational content, guide learners, provide support, and assess performance to ensure learning outcomes are achieved to ensure compliance with ANSI/IACET standards.  Use effectively various teaching and facilitation strategies to address multiple adult learning styles, promote learner engagement, and ensure the transfer of learning back to the job.

  • Adapt instructional style to deliver training in person and virtually to building managers and operators, stationary engineers, energy auditors, and other facility professionals who work or support DCAS owned and managed commercial buildings.

  • Create a safe learner-centric environment in which adult learners use critical thinking skills, are motivated, and are partners in the learning process.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders, subject matter experts, and CUNY SPS partners to support the program.

  • Assess learners’ progress throughout the course and impact on the overall effectiveness of the training program.

  • Report on learner and course outcomes to key stakeholders in a timely manner.

  • Participate in scheduled instructor meetings and professional development activities.

  • Follow ADDIE instructional systems design principles to support the development of training materials and job aids.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering specialty (mechanical, electrical, civil, environmental, etc.) energy management, or sustainability.

  • Two years’ experience teaching adult learners in a higher education setting preferred, with the ability to:

  • Deliver course content effectively according to defined course learning objectives and established curriculum, both in person and virtually.

  • Respond to feedback on teaching approach and effectiveness, and adjust their instructional strategy to motivate students and respond to their needs.

  • Manage the classroom environment: engage and support learners and their acquisition of knowledge and skills in energy management and sustainability.

  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing with students and CUNY SPS program staff.

  • Work independently and collaboratively with CUNY SPS programmatic staff.

  • Strong organizational skills with an attention to detail.
