With a 50-year tradition of quality caring, Washakie Medical Center in Worland, Wyo. is a 18-bed critical access hospital with "big city" capabilities. This includes a 64-slice CT scanner, 3D tomosynthesis mammography, 1.5 tesla MRI, Ultrasound, fluro, electronic medical records and a full service, state-of-the-art lab. Our trauma ED is staffed with full-time physicians and our surgery services include 24/7 CRNA coverage including OB epidurals, two general surgeons, orthopedic surgery, and ambulatory treatment. In addition, we provide a variety of wellness activities and feature an active rehab department.  Worland sits in the Bighorn Basin area of Wyoming.  We are situated 30 minutes from the Bighorn mountains, Wind River Canyon and an easy drive to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks.  Your time outdoors can be spent in some of the most scenic areas of the country. 

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for scheduling and financially clearing patients for outpatient, inpatient or recurring procedures. Activities include receiving physician orders, obtaining/validating pre-authorizations, conducting financial clearance activities such as insurance verification, estimate generation, financial counseling, demographic review and collecting patient liability. This position provides mentoring, training and offers on-going guidance as needed for scheduling and pre-service team. Additionally, Senior Scheduler/Registration Reps will function as the primary resource/SME for team member workflow questions and concerns.

CORE FUNCTIONS

1. Receives physician orders and seeks clarification, if necessary. Schedules patients for outpatient, inpatient or recurring procedures using computerized scheduling systems. Displays competency for physician preferences, special needs related to the diagnosis or age of the patient. May obtain and/or validate authorizations for scheduled procedures. Resolves scheduling conflicts, as needed.

2. Enters patient information in computerized scheduling system, gather information, may modify records as needed to maintain current database. May prepare charts and manages files within regulatory requirements. Documents all information regarding patient re-schedules.

3. Demonstrates the ability to prioritize workload in order to accurately complete daily work list. This may include working with the ordering provider and/or payer to fully clear a patient's account prior to the date of service. Daily focus on attaining productivity standards.

4. May verbally educate patients or patient’s agent regarding the service(s) they will receive when necessary. This includes but may not be limited to prep for procedure. Responds to diverse questions or refers to appropriate clinical staff.

5. Demonstrates a thorough understanding of insurance guidelines for scheduled services. Proficiently verifies, reads and understands insurance benefits, accurately creates patient estimates for services rendered using estimator tools, able to educate patient on their insurance benefits and estimate. Collects patient responsibility. May develop payment plans for all patients that are not able to pay their full liability at the time of service. Must be able to consistently meet monthly individual collection target as determined by management.

6. Conducts customer interactions over the phone, demonstrating a positive patient experience through effective communication. Demonstrates clear understanding that this position creates the first impression for our patient's experience with Banner Health. Answers all telephone inquiries related to scheduling.

7. Completes and/or attends training and education sessions, including facility department meetings within approved organizational guidelines and time frames. Adheres to Banner Health's organizational policies and procedures for relevant location and job scope.

8. Recommends new approaches for enhancing workflow, and/or patient experience. May participate in facility strategy session to improve throughput for scheduled services and/or provider experience.

9. Performs other duties as assigned by management.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma/GED is required.

Requires a proficiency level typically achieved in three years as a registration representative, auditor, in medical office operations and/or experience in healthcare insurance and billing.

Business skills and experience in the assigned work area are required. Must be detail oriented and able to manage priorities. Must be able to maintain high productivity standard with minimal errors. Advanced abilities in the use of common office software, word processing, spreadsheet, and database

software are required. Requires the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with minimal supervision and to work independently. Excellent organizational skills, human relations, and communication skills required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Associate’s degree in Business Management or equivalent preferred.

Certification in CRCR and/or CHAA preferred.

Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
