The Materials Planner serves as the strategic 'air traffic controller' for the entire inventory lifecycle of equipment, parts, and assemblies, ensuring seamless material flow to meet production goals. This role is responsible for comprehensive requirements planning, scheduling, expediting overdue materials, maintaining precise inventory and quality control records, and coordinating all material movement across purchasing, production, and engineering teams.

## Your responsibilities will include

• Requirements Planning & Scheduling: Determine material requirements based on engineering and production schedules. Compute the exact amount of material needed for specific jobs and establish sequential delivery dates based on urgency and availability.

• Workflow & Expediting: Arrange and accelerate the flow of equipment, materials, and assemblies according to priorities. Identify and track overdue materials and arrange for immediate transfer or repair to prevent bottlenecks.

• Inventory & Quality Control: Maintain precise manual or computerized records, including inventory levels and material locations. Examine incoming materials to verify strict conformance to specifications and purchase orders.

• Coordination: Confer with department heads and internal teams to determine current and future needs, as well as coordinate the efficient movement of materials with purchasing, production, and engineering.

The Materials Planner role operates primarily in a professional office environment but requires regular presence on the manufacturing floor. Standard physical requirements include:

• Ability to walk and stand for extended periods while monitoring material flow and inventory locations throughout the production facility.

• Sharp focus required for reading engineering schedules, computer screens, and verifying small part numbers or specifications on labels.

• Frequent use of hands and fingers to operate computer systems, scan inventory, and occasionally handle small parts or equipment assemblies.

• Occasional lifting or moving of materials up to 25 pounds when verifying inventory or arranging material flow.

• Environment: Must be able to work in a manufacturing environment which may include exposure to noise, varying temperatures, and moving mechanical parts, necessitating the use of proper PPE.

## Minimum requirements

• High school diploma or GED

• 2-4 years material management experience

• Working knowledge of computer based software and scheduling tools: (SAP, MRP, EDI, ASN, MPS, WMCS, APS, Excel)

## Preferred skills and experiences

• Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management or related field is preferred
